John E. McCann, 78 of Cape May Court House, NJ, passed away March 3, 2016. He was born May 28, 1937 to the late James J. and Thelma M. (Cobbin) McCann. John attended North Catholic High School in Philadelphia, PA and National Agricultural College, Doylestown, PA. He furthered his career studying engineering at Rutgers University. John was a family man of deep faith with a generous heart. Throughout his lifetime John enjoyed golfing, fishing, cruising, the beach, and most of all spending time with his family. He, also, enjoyed telling many stories to captivated and entertained grandchildren.
John was a faithful, hardworking man who began his career as a soil conservationist and retired after many years of dedicated service, leadership, mentoring and major contributions at Urban Engineers of Philadelphia.
John was a loving husband and father, grandfather, great grandfather, and dear friend to many. He was preceded in death by his parents, 5 brothers, and 2 sisters. He is survived by his beloved wife, Marguerite, children: Donna (Mike) Wojton, Vicki Polites, Sharon (Al) McCann, Margie (Randy) Lownes, and John (Marni) McCann, and his dog, Maggie, 13 grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, his sisters: Mickey Sorensen, Claire O'Malley, Sr. Joan Marie McCann, Annette Ryan, Diane Andrews, and Connie McCann, and many nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends are invited to his viewing at Our Lady of the Angels Church, 35 E. Mechanic St., Cape May Court House, NJ 08210 on Wednesday March 9, 2016 from 9 to 10:30 AM with a Funeral Mass to commence at 10:30 AM. Interment to follow at Resurrection Cemetery in Clermont, NJ.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to University of Pennsylvania, Melanoma Research, 3535 Market St., Ste. 750, Phila., PA 19104. Family is grateful for the wonderful care John received at the Perelman Center. Condolences may be left at Lownes Family Funeral Home at www.lownes.com.
