Some quick memories about Eddie.
First time I ever golfed with Eddie I was very excited. I knew that he was a great golfer and I was anxious to see him play. We started on #10 at Tavistock. Eddie's second shot hit the pin. Great shot, but it is an easy hole. He made bird then parred 11. On #12, he hit the pin again and made bird. Wow!
Another time,we were in the back room at Tavistock. He showed me a newspaper clipping when the Philadelphia Open was a tour stop. I believe he shot 70 in the first round and beat a young upstart pro named Arnpld Palmer. Eddie was very proud of this. Who wouldn't be?
And one last one. Eddie worked for Ralph Cornell. One winter Ralph invited Eddie to Florida to golf. They were paired with a young pro named Larry Ziegler.with no expectations coming out of the cold, Eddie started to play well. On the 18th hole, Ralph and Eddie had Larry and his opponent one down. Ralph says to Eddie, "I want you to 3 putt because we don't want Larry to lose. We're trying to encourage him as he goes out on tour." Eddie said no problem. He thought the easiest way to 3 putt was to hit the ball way past the hole. Eddie hot it and of course it had a lit of speed and dove into the hole.
Larry Ziegler said, "How can I go out on tour when I can't beat a steel salesman from New Jersey in the middle of winter?"
A lot of great memories. Thanks Eddie!
