I will remember Hank at the centre of the group, happy just watching his extensive (and extended) family swirl around him; always a busy house where you felt totally welcome. I think of babies being passed around, food being shared, plenty of laughter and an atmosphere of relaxed joy.
I have been incredibly lucky to have been counted in that extended family and to have known Hank for my entire life. I can remember being a small child and listening to him explain how the lightning storms formed in summer, him telling stories of his children causing chaos as they grew up with a big grin on his face, then grew to appreciate the complexity of the Philadelphia Eagles strategies under his tutelage.
Our countless trips to Ocean City to spend time with the Darraghs are some of the best summers of my life. In those times Hank taught me, by way of example, to value the simple things in life; in particular, a good cheesesteak, time at the beach, a cold drink in hand and being surrounded by the people you love. He was a true gentleman, incredibly kind, quick to laugh and always ready with a joke or a good story... he was someone to learn from and look up to and he will be sorely missed.
Lots of love from Cornwall (UK), Sean, Emily & Connie Blackburn

All of my earliest memories of living in America involve the Darraghs and remembering Hank sitting at the head of the table surrounded by the joyous chaos of the Darragh household, and long summer days on the beach in Ocean City.
Hank was such a wonderful man and was like a grandpa to me. He really holds such a special place in my heart. Despite living across the pond now, it’s been amazing to have Hank and Clare with us to celebrate all the big Blackburn events, in particular my wedding, Sean’s wedding, and surprising my mum for her 50th Birthday. Her face when she walked in and the first person she saw was Hank is an image I will never forget!
I’m so happy that we managed to get to Ocean City last summer to enjoy a glass of red wine with him, and that he was able to meet my children.
Sending so much love, Nathalie, George, Cleo, and Rupert Mawdsley

Among MANY memories over my 23 year friendship with ClareAnne, Mr. Darragh was the highlight of my visits to the Hamptons Film Festival (along with Mrs. Darragh of course). They were beaming with pride working, wearing their passes and always welcoming me with open arms and smiles that made me want to stay in the office with them all day! Mr. D had a presence that was real- he always called it like it was when he had something to say, it was thoughtful and you listened because it mattered... he cared enough to tell you the truth, a special and unforgettable man. He left an incredible legacy and will be missed by so many including his beloved family and everyone who knew him.

Our memories of Hank Darragh.
We arrived in Philadelphia May 1983, I was 23 years old and Paul 28. We left Dublin, Ireland, because of Paul’s transfer to Smithkline and French in Spring Garden Street.
Whilst in Ireland, Paul’s contact in the US was Hank so they talked almost on a daily basis during the previous year. Paul was so keen to meet Hank who had ‘ the all American accent’. Upon meeting face to face, he was struck by how friendly Hank was and noticed his super shiny brogues and very smart attire. This was clearly a discipline from his Navy days.
Hank and Clare literally took us under their wings, they guided , embraced and made us part of the Darragh Family. Hank and Clare became substitute grandparents to our three children and Clare godmother to our son, Sean.
Hank loved travelling to London and Cornwall to see the Blackburn’s, he also loved when we came to Philadelphia and Ocean City. We always had a great time together and drank plenty of red wine. His favorite was a St Emilion grand cru. Good choice!
On a recent visit to the UK, I took Hank and Clare to Port Issac, Cornwall . At the top of the street, Clare informed me that Hank could not walk down to the harbour, ‘never mind’ said I. I drove my brand new car down a street which was so narrow only to find we were on the harbour with only the sea to make a U turn. There was a lot of Jesus, Mary and Holy St Joseph coming from my passengers. Thank God, the fishermen helped us back up the very very narrow road.
Last summer, Paul and I, popped over for breakfast at Hank and Clare’s in Ocean City at 10am, we chatted , laughed and joked until all of us looked at our clocks , it was 5pm. Where had the day gone, it was quite a breakfast. Hank was in great form.
Hank, you will be forever in our hearts, we simply loved and adored you and being part of your wonderful family. What fun times we shared for over 40 years.
What a great life lived.

Q: How did you meet Henry?
A: We were first introduced to Hank when we visited Philadelphia in 1992; Pete’s twin brother Paul and sister in law Joan had moved to Cherry Hill. During our stay Hank and Clare invited us to their home and made us all so welcome; we also had the pleasure of visiting their holiday home in Ocean City. The generosity extended to our family has never been forgotten. Over the years we were reunited with Hank and Clare through the Beaconsfield Blackburn’s; always a pleasure to be in their company. Hank was a lovely man who lived a long and happy life, surrounded by a close family. We remember him with great fondness. Pete and Jan Blackburn.
