Coach Barker is one of the greatest men I ever had the honor of knowing. Picts are him coming down to congratulate Chris Hoyt ('86) and me (Drew Smith - '85) after winning the City Championships in JV Double in 1984. Coach Barker has improved the lives of thousands of people across the world through his love and dedication to rowing. I think of and share his leadership lessons almost daily.

In 1977 & 78 I went to Undine to row with and learn from the best - and that was Coach Barker. As a kid from Kansas, going to Philly was a big leap. I have always been grateful to have been welcomed into the team as I was. My time at Undine will forever be remembered as the highlight of my rowing career and Coach Barker was a huge part of that. My sincere condolences to the Barker family and all who loved him and mourn his passing. Jerry Arnold

In 1986, I was one of the rowers that moved to Philadelphia to be coached by Jim Barker. He absolutely helped me to achieve my dream and row for the US National Team at the World Championships and World University Games in 1989. I am very thankful for his coaching and comments.
