Obituary of Daniel B. Barbuto

Daniel Barbuto of Flourtown, age 49, passed away January 31st 2020. Born in Point Pleasant NJ. He is survived by wife Lauren (Salvesen) Barbuto, Parents John B Barbuto, Doris (Jamison) Barbuto, Brother John H Barbuto , niece Savannah Barbuto, and his 4 legged buddy, Lucky. Dan was born in Point Pleasant NJ and also lived in Manasquan while growing up. He loved going to the beach, it was his babysitter. Any day you were likely to find him body boarding or just enjoying the beach. He grew up with a love of cars, which he gained from his father and grandfather. Growing up he was known around town for his love of cars and shenanigans. His first job was at Jody’s Seafood as a dishwasher. This is where his love for the restaurant industry began. He worked many different jobs in the restaurant industry, all working towards becoming a chef. He took a break for a while and worked for Shalloo Gardens. Along the way Dan made life long friends. He decided to move to Lake Tahoe CA. He lived there for about 5 years, working as both a ski lift operator and a chef. Creating a lifetime of memories and many lasting friendships. He made a few trips across the country including one in his “girlfriend” the 1969 Chevelle that was his first car and is still in his garage. After coming back to NJ he decided to pursue a culinary degree at the Culinary Institute of America (CIA) in Hyde Park NY. There he met the love of his life, Lauren, they started dating in 2011. After graduating, Dan and Lauren lived in Port Chester NY, where Dan worked at Westchester Country Club for 5 years. They were able to enjoy many adventures in NYC, their first vacation together to the Bahamas, snowboarding, and a baptism in Bermuda. Also a trip to South Korea where they were able to eat their way across Seoul! There was plenty of soju involved. Dan and Lauren moved to the greater Philadelphia area after Dan accepted an Executive Sous Chef Position at Philadelphia Cricket Club. They were married on Sept 9th 2017 at St. Peter’s Lutheran church with celebration at Huntingdon Valley Country Club. They enjoyed their honeymoon in the Dominican Republic. They were able to purchase their first home in Flourtown, PA May 7th 2018. On October 19, 2019 Dan finally caved and they adopted their dog Lucky. Dan was diagnosed February 2019 with Stage 4 pancreatic cancer that had spread to his liver. Very soon after the diagnosis, Dan and Lauren made the decision to be as positive as possible and enjoy the limited time they had left together. Dan battled for almost an entire year and was fortunate enough to do well through the battle until the very end. He kept a positive outlook, and received wonderful care at Bryn Mawr Hospital. He left this world peacefully at Bryn Mawr Hospital on January 31, 2020. Dan had three things he wanted: not to die in our home, not to be in pain, and not to be drugged out. As always he did it on his own terms. He passed away peacefully just before 1am on January 31st 2020. He has left a gigantic hole in the hearts of many. He will be greatly missed by all. Lauren has established a scholarship fund with the CIA in Dan’s memory. Donations can be made at www.ciagiving.org.
