Please share a memory of Elizabeth M. to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Elizabeth Marie Coutts, know to all as Bettie, passed away at home in the early hours of the morning on Monday, March 26, 2018. She was the middle child of three girls of Thomas and Maude Burns, and was born on May 10, 1937 in Holyoke, Massachusetts. The family moved to North Hills, Pennsylvania where Betty graduated from St. Basil's Academy. Upon graduation, Bettie began working at Bell Telephone in Glenside. When Bettie was twenty, she met Archibald William Coutts (known to all as Skip) while she babysitting for Skip's brother's children. They were married the following June 8, 1957. Bettie and Skip brought ten healthy and vivacious children into this world, five boys and five girls. When asked why she had ten children, Bettie would laugh and say she wanted six and Skip wanted four so they ended up with ten. They bought a big, old house on Madison Avenue in Fort Washington and made it their home for 53 years. They reared all ten children in that home which was always filled with laughter and the joys of life. Bettie dedicated her life to her family. She was kind, warm-hearted, and generous. She loved to have family affairs, and she would cook enough food to feed a small army. The first thing Bettie always did when someone came into her home was take them to the kitchen and offer them tea and something to eat. She always had time for her ten children and grandchildren, even with so many of them. Bettie and Skip have twenty-eight grandchildren and six step-grandchildren. They also have thirteen great-grandchildren. Their home is filled with photographs in a testament to their many loved ones. Bettie's kindness and generosity extended beyond her family. She always sent flowers to friends in need and baked meals for those in difficult times. She brought little gifts to the nurses when she had her medical visits and was loved by all she met. Bettie's great smile and laughter will be missed by all. The family vows to keep her legacy of family and love alive. She is survived by her husband, Skip, children Andrew, Robert, Elizabeth, John, Edward, Linda, Daniel, Sarah, Anne Marie, and Patricia; ; twenty-eight grandchildren; and thirteen great-grandchildren. The viewing will be held at the Lownes Family Funeral Home, LLC Germantown Avenue, Lafayette Hill, PA on March 29, 2018 from 10:00 am to 11:30 am followed by a Celebration of Life Ceremony. Interment will follow at the George Washington Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, donations in Bettie's name may be sent to Kindred At Home Hospice, 1210 Northbrook Drive, Suite 220 Trevose, PA 19053.
