Obituary of Joan W. Taylor
Please share a memory of Joan W. to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Joan Taylor passed away peacefully in her sleep at Chestnut Hill Hospital in the early morning of October 8. Joan was the widow of John E. Taylor and was a 17-year resident of the Masonic Village. She was the daughter of the late L. Vernon and Edna F. (Kimmel) Workman. Born on September 8, 1924 in Middletown, Ohio, Joan spent most of her formative years in Paxtang, Pennsylvania, an inner suburb of Harrisburg. She was a 1942 honors graduate of John Harris High School (predecessor of the present-day Harrisburg High School) and a 1945 Liberal Arts graduate of Pennsylvania State College (now Pennsylvania State University) where she was a sister of Chi Omega. After college graduation, Joan worked at the national headquarters of the American Red Cross in Washington until her marriage to Mr. Taylor on June 14, 1947. Mr. Taylor established a dairy packaging equipment business in Columbus, Ohio where the couple resided for 40 years, relocating to Philadelphia upon Mr. Taylor's retirement. Joan is survived by her loving daughter Carol Strasbaugh and her husband Wayne R. Strasbaugh of Chestnut Hill and her grandchildren -- Susan Strasbaugh of Chestnut Hill, Wayne T. Strasbaugh of Plymouth Meeting, and Elizabeth Galaz (wife of Timothy Galaz) of University City. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that gifts be made to the Pennsylvania State University educational fund of their choice at giveto.psu.edu.
