Obituary of Melitta D. Hallman

Melitta Daudt Hallman, formerly Executive Vice President of the Sprint Corporation, passed away on November 3, 2016 at her home in Lafayette Hill Pennsylvania. She was 82 years old and had been ill for several years. Melitta went to college at the University of Pennsylvania on several scholarships that she received as Valedictorian of her high school class at Little Flower Catholic High School in Philadelphia. She was a brilliant student at Penn, and graduated Summa Cum Laude in 1955. She was elected to the Phi Beta Kappa Honor Society in her junior year. She was also a member of the Chi Omega Sorority. Melitta met Victor Hallman at Penn and they were married in 1957. They had two children: Susan Leeds (nee Hallman) and Victor (who is now also deceased). Melitta was an effective and loving mother, who devoted herself entirely to raising and caring for their children until the children were in school. At that point, she returned to the workforce outside of the home, and began as a bookkeeper for a local shoe store. From that modest beginning, she eventually joined the Sprint Corporation and over the next 15 years, and with numerous awards and promotions, she attained the position of Executive Vice President of Sprint. She retired from Sprint in 2004 at that position. Melitta pursued many interests in addition to her professional career. She was an especially talented gardener, excelled at needlework, and was a lover of poetry. Melitta also found time to work for a number of charitable and community organizations including programs for disadvantaged children, community outreach and fundraising. Melitta is survived by her husband Victor, her daughter Susan, her grandchildren Alexia and Elena, her sister Theresa, and her brothers Paul, Rick and Karl. She also is survived by several devoted nieces and nephews. Rest in peace, Melitta. We all love you! Her funeral mass will be on Friday Nov.11,2016 at 11am from Saint Philip Neri Church,437 Ridge Pike, Lafayette Hill,Pa.19444. There will be a visitation at the church from 10-11am. The burial will be held privately. Memorial donations may be made to the Univ. of Penna.
