Obituary of Jean C. Elliott

Jean Carlile Elliott, of Lafayette Hill and Rydal Park, passed away on July 9, 2016. Born in 1935, she lived to be 80 years old. Jean was born in Jenkintown, daughter of the late William K. and Anna Mae Markee Carlile. In 1962, she married Donald P. Elliott, and moved to Lafayette Hill. She is survived by Dr. Elliot, as well as her sister, Anna Carlile Genthe. She was preceded in death by a brother, William K. Carlile; a sister, Elizabeth C. Soloway; and Anna's twin, Laura C. Johnson. A well-traveled woman who made friends wherever she went, Jean dedicated much of her life to the Philadelphia area Presbyterian Church. She was retired from her job as consultant for church financial campaign services and had served as moderator of the Philadelphia Presbytery, the second woman to hold the position. Jean was a member of Grace Presbyterian Church in Jenkintown before she moved to Lafayette Hill and joined the Chestnut Hill Presbyterian Church. For several years, she was the Director of Christian Education at Chestnut Hill and later served as an Elder and a Deacon. Jean was also an active member of the American Association of University Women, and graduated from Wilson College after completing her primary and secondary education in the Jenkintown Public School System. Funeral services will be held at the Chestnut Hill Presbyterian Church on Sunday, July 24, 2016 at one o'clock. A reception will follow in Wiedner Hall. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Jean's memory to the Memorial Fund at Chestnut Hill Presbyterian Church. Mrs.Elliot was a graduate of Wilson College. and through out her life she was very active in the Presbyterian Church of Phila. She also was a long time faithful member of the Presbyterian Church of Chestnut Hill and was their Director of Religious Education for many years. She will be sorely missed by her devoted family and many friends.
