I was privileged to have Miss Gallagher as my history teacher during my junior year at Abington in 1984. To this day I credit her for my love and knowledge of American history. We kept correspondence over the years (most notably on St Patrick's Day and Christmas) - she even surprised my wife and I by attending our wedding in 1997(as we were both under the impression that she couldn't attend). I miss the opportunity now of sharing my Irish Chili recipe with her. She will be missed.

My husband and I live a few blocks away from where Joan lived. We just learned of her death, and are deeply, deeply saddened. She was a lovely woman. We shared a love of dogs and always admired and petted each other's canine chums. Her two greyhounds were sweet and gentle; I often thought that if Joan were a dog, she would have been a greyhound. We are happy to learn that Joan had a large and loving family. We miss her very much.

I was so saddened to learn about Joan's passing. I taught with her at Abington Senior High in the early seventies. Frequently in the years afterward, I lunched with her and Janet Simon. Joan was an inspiration to so many people, students and fellow teachers alike. She was always pleasant with a quick smile and friendly words of encouragement. We skied together in Maine where I found her to be a wonderful traveling companion. She will be missed by so many.

I will always remember Ms. Gallagher! She was my History teacher back in 1991 and I vividly remember the way she would animatedly bring history to life for me. It was spectacular! Thank you Ms. Gallagher. I hope you are in peace now.

I was privileged to learn from Miss Gallagher for two years in AP US history from 1989 to 1991. She was passionate and inspiring and worked us all very hard. Her passion for her subject was infectious. In fact, when I went to college I majored in American civilizations and went on to get my doctorate in cultural anthropology. I focused on complex societies and specifically looked at the United States. I truly believe that Miss Gallagher set my entire orientation towards social studies in motion. She also said a model for great teaching: enthusiastic, serious, and pleasant. She kept very clear boundaries between teacher and student, but at the same time was warm and engaging. It was a privilege to learn from her and to know her.
It's been a pleasure to learn about Miss Gallagher for all those many parts of her life and many roles that she took on outside of teaching. I wish her family and friends the opportunity to do well in many fond memories.
Rest well, dear teacher

Joan was such a beloved neighbor. I always looked forward to seeing Joan to stop to chat. This would be often when she had her sweet greyhounds, Candy and Ana. I think we spoke mostly every day because Joan was such a great mom to them and was out with them several times a day running errands, walking through town and strolling through the neighborhood. Her dogs were as sweet as she was. Joan was also very affectionate with our dogs and she loved making a fuss over them. Once they spotted her they would start running to see her. They would go crazy to see her. In fact, many times they would either pause at her house or want to run up her steps as we were walking by. We would often bring her paper up to her mail box and if I was with Simi, the Ridgeback, Simi would sit on her porch nearly every time refusing to leave. Joan was such a kind, generous person with a big heart. I'll remember that the most about her. She was always happy to see us and in good spirits. She will be greatly missed and always remembered.
