Obituary of William R. Radetzky

1923 – 2015 Deacon William R. Radetzky, retired Permanent Deacon, died on Monday, March 23, 2015, after a lengthy illness. Deacon Radetzky was born on February 22, 1923, in Philadelphia, PA, to the late Charles William Radetzky and Elise M. (nee) Bloomberg. He attended Carnell Elementary School, Wilson Junior High School, and Frankford High School, all in Philadelphia. He then attended Peabody College in Nashville, TN, and later the Wharton School of Business at the University of Pennsylvania. A World War II veteran, Deacon Radetzky served honorably in the United States Air Force as an aerial gunner from 1942 until 1946. Deacon Radetzky began his career in the securities business in 1940 with the firm of Baker-Weeks. He returned to Baker-Weeks after completing his military service, and remained with the firm until 1953. At that point, he took a position with Hanseatic, a New York securities firm. At first, he managed the Philadelphia office; however, he eventually became the Vice President of Dealer Relations in the company's New York headquarters. He remained with this firm until 1968, when he accepted the position of Manager of Corporate Trading/Block Trading Specialist with Butcher-Shererd. In 1971, he was made a general partner, a position he held until 1977. At that time, he joined the brokerage firm of Janney, Montgomery Scott, where he served as the Senior Vice President for Institutional Block and OTC Trading. Deacon Radetzky was employed by Janney, Montgomery Scott from 1977 until his retirement in 2005. During his professional career, Deacon Radetzky various position in organizations related to the securities industry. In 1974, he was appointed as the Chair of the Nationals Securities Traders Association. He was also the twice President of the Investment Traders Association of Philadelphia. Deacon Radetzky was married to the late Angela Anne (nee) Amicone. He was the father to three daughters: Carol Pineo (Bernard); Lisa Anne Sweeney (deceased) (John); and, Susan Radetzky (deceased). He also had two grandsons: Jonathan Pineo and Christopher Tomarelli, and one great-son, Liam Tomarelli and a great granddaughter Ruby Wren Pineo. Following a period of theological study, Deacon Radetzky was ordained a Permanent Deacon for the Archdiocese of Philadelphia on May 25, 1986, at the Cathedral Basilica of Saints Peter and Paul, Philadelphia by John Cardinal Krol. He was immediately assigned to Epiphany of Our Lord Parish, where he remained until his retirement in January, 2011. Funeral mass Friday 3/27/15 at 11am from the Epiphany of Our Lord Church,3050 Walton Rd. Plymouth Mtg. Pa.19462 . The viewing will be also at the church from 9:30-10:45am.
