Obituary of Joseph T. Steuer

Joseph T. Steuer, age 63 of Blue Bell ., Chief Financial Officer of the Philadelphia Zoo ,died Saturday,January 31 , of Brain Cancer. In his 14 years as CFO, Mr.Steuer orchestrated a period of unprecedented growth for America's first Zoo. During his tenure at the Zoo and through his leadership with the Zoo's employees, volunteers , Board and community and corporate partners, the Phila. Zoo has undergone a transformational change with new exhibits and amenities , while providing the highest standards of animal welfare ,advancing the conservation and education mission of the Zoo and delivering record financial results. Prior to Joining the Zoo, Joe spent 18 years with the Campbell Soup Co. as Vice President and Controller of the sales division , before becoming the Vice President of Finance for the Campbell Soup Food Services division. A native of Queens, New York, he graduated from Manhattan College and earned an MBA in finance at New York University. He was a CPA and served on the executive committee of the Penna.Institute of CPAs, Greater Philadelphia Chapter. Joe also served on the Board of Directors of the Justi Group, Inc. and the Board of Directors of Peirce College where he was the Chair of the Finance and Investment Committee, a member of the Executive Committee and a member of the Audit, Risk and Compliance Committee. In addition to his professional activities , Joe was actively involved in his community. He was Chair of the Whitpain Twp. Shade Tree Commission for over 15 years and was a member of the Barnes Arboretum Advisory Council. Joe was also a member of the Epiphany of Our Lord Church. He is survived by his wife Connie (O'Brien) Steuer one daughter: Katherine G. Killen three sons: Matthew R. Steuer, Mark B. Steuer, Frank D. Cannon one brother: John Steuer Friends may call Wednesday 2/4/2015 from 9:30-11:15am at Epiphany Of Our Lord Church, 3050 Walton Rd., Plymouth Meeting. A memorial mass will be held at 11:30 am Burial will be the Calvary Cemetery, Lower Merion. Donations in Joes name may be made to the Philadelphia Zoo ,3400 W. Girard Ave.Phila.Pa.19104
