Dr. Richard A. Baker, M.D., age 84 of Phila. , died Wednesday (6/11) in the Chestnut Hill Hospital after a long illness.
He was a Physician serving as the Commanding Officer at the Naval Regional Medical Center in Phila.
Dr. Baker . was born in Monroe, UT, the son of the late Arthur L. and the late Jean Winn Baker. Husband of the late Marilynn (Sage) Baker
Dr. Baker graduated the Univ. of Utah in 1952 and received his M.D. in 1956 also at the Univ. of Utah. He Interned in Oakland California and did his residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology at the Columbia Hospital for Women in Washington,DC.
Dr. Baker served our Country during The Veitnam War in the US Navy and retired as a Navy Captain after many years of service.He was awarded The Naval Commendation Medal in 1973.
Through his very distinguished career Dr. Baker served as chairman of countless departments of Hospitals from Rhode Island, San Diego to Philadelphia.
Most recently his career entailed Professorships at Jefferson Medical College and Hahnemann Univ. where he was also Acting Chairman and Program Director for the Obstetrics and Gynecology Department. He also was a past President of the Obstetrical Society of Phila.He was awarded Teacher of the year in 1990 and 91 at Hahnemann also. Dr. Baker had also many publications in his field also and was also a lecturer.
He is survived by
three daughters: Ricki Kallish , Lori Balajthy, Allison Baker
4 Grandchildren , 2 Great Grandchildren,
