Obituary of R. Curt Gaines
Please share a memory of R. Curt to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Robert Curtis "Curt" Gaines, 55, of Ft. Washington, PA, passed away suddenly on September 23, 2013.
A proud father, Curt is survived by his loving family: wife of 27 years, Therese; son Jim; sisters Sally, Nancy and Sue; father Robert Gaines; and a niece and nephews.
A graduate of the Westtown Friends School and the College of Engineering at Villanova University, Curt worked in the food and consumer products industry/chemical process engineering before raising his son Jim at home. He was devoted to his family and exceedingly proud of Jim.
Curt loved basketball and played often after graduation with his friends from Villanova. He was a guitarist and played in several bands, including with his wife, Therese and other friends.
He worked early in his life as a salmon fisherman in Seattle and the Alaska Inside Passage. He loved the west coast, especially Santa Barbara, CA, where he later worked an extended engineering assignment for Life Sciences. Curt and Therese honeymooned in St. John, USVI, and he loved snorkeling there -- visiting again recently.
At different times he bought, repaired and traded a number of classic cars. He was a civil war and history buff, and researched his family tree back to the 16th century, including by a visit to the location of his ancestral roots in Wales.
Curt was a gentle person and a loving father and husband. He had a wonderful sense of humor, loved cats and dogs, and rescued the mischievous family Siamese cat multiple times. He made friends easily, made folks laugh and put them at ease.
He will be dearly missed by his loving family, many friends and fellow musicians.
A private celebration of his life and memorial service will be held later.
