Kayo has always been a bright spot in my life.
I remember overnights at Firefly Farm in the 1950’’s with Carol and the gang in our middle school years. We slept in the cabin near the pool and always had difficulty with the kerosene heater . Later, in the 1970’s, Kayo painted portraits of my daughters Kate and Alice when they were 2 or 3 years old which grace our living room to this day . I remember being in Mrs. B’s studio while Kate and later Alice “sat” for their portraits. Mrs. B entertained us all and captured the character of each daughter. Fifteen or so years ago she painted portraits of my two oldest grandchildren. Those portraits made their to Canada where the family lives. Within the last 10-15 years I would see Mrs. B most summers in Southwest Harbor, Maine where she and family would spend a few weeks. She was always the first to step lively down to the dock at their place to bring breakfast to assorted family and visitors lolling about. Since we were often visiting on a boat the coffee was greatly appreciated. It was in Maine that I first saw how her art had expanded from portraiture to contemporary impressionist landscapes, frequently of the Maine coast.
What a brilliant and remarkable woman! It was an honor to know her. Emma
