Obituary of John J. Coscia
John Joseph Coscia, 87, of Lafayette Hill, PA , passed away peacefully at home surrounded by family on December 15th 2024.
Funeral service will be held at Saint Philip Neri Church in Lafayette Hill on December 21st at 11:00 AM with Reverend Szparagowski of Saint Philip Neri Church officiating. Burial will follow at Saint Patrick Cemetery, 2300 Dekalb Pike Norristown, PA 19401. Visitation will be held at Saint Philip Neri Church in Lafayette Hill on December 21st at 9:30 AM. Lownes Family Funeral Home will be handling the funeral arrangements.
John was born in Philadelphia, PA to Salvatore and Minnie Coscia on October 31, 1937. He went to high school at Southeast Catholic and graduated in 1955. He then went on to earn a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering at Drexel University and a master’s degree from Villanova. He started his career at the Philadelphia Water Department and then went to The Delaware Valley Regional Planning Commission (DVRPC) where he worked for 38 years. He served as the Executive Director of DVRPC for 28 of those years. He married the love of his life Patsy, at St. Nicholas Church in Atlantic City in 1968. They moved to Lafayette Hill in 1977 and enjoyed many happy years with her and John Jr there. He loved gardening, coaching, and spending time down the shore and at Disneyworld with his family. He was also president of Whitemarsh Little League in the early 1980’s and served as a volunteer on the Whitemarsh Planning Commission. He was a diehard Eagles fan and was thrilled that he got to experience a super bowl victory in 2018.
John is survived by his son, John Coscia, Jr (Lisa) of Plymouth Meeting, PA and his grandchildren Tyler (fiancée Annika), Lauren and Ryan. He is also survived by his nieces, nephews and extended family. He is preceded in death by his parents, beloved wife Patsy, and twin sister Anastasia.
