Marie M Downey (nee Marsella) of Philadelphia / Andorra PA, passed away on November 14th, 2024 while surrounded by her family. She was the daughter of Dominic & Victoria (nee Borsa) and grew up on south 9th street in Philadelphia.

Marie enjoyed spending time with her family and friends, especially her grandchildren, who she adored. Marie also enjoyed spending time at the NJ shore, eating sweet treats and was known for making THE BEST Jewish apple cakes. She worked at Pennsylvania Hospital & Cathedral Village and was an active member of Old Saint Mary’s and Immaculate Heart of Mary churches.

Marie was the beloved wife of the late Joseph Downey Sr; caring sister of the late Jennette Maleno (the late Joseph) and the late Thomas P. Marsella (the late Mary); Devoted mother of Joseph Downey (the late Coleen), Marie Newell (Matthew), and John Downey (Sharon); Loving Grandmother to: Victoria, Alexis, Matthew, Christopher, Thomas, Joseph III, Jacob, Samuel & Mason.

Relatives & Friends are invited to her Visitation 9:30-11:00 AM on Thursday November 21st, 2024, at Immaculate Heart Of Mary Church, 819 Cathedral Road Philadelphia PA 19128, followed by her Funeral Mass at 11:00AM. Internment SS Peter & Paul Cemetery following mass. In lieu of flowers, contributions in her name to Autism Speaks or the American Cancer Society would be appreciated.
