Philip J. Prestia Obituary

It is with great sorrow that we announce the death of Philip Joseph Prestia, who passed away on February 14, 2024, at the age of 90. Philip was born on June 19, 1933, to Philip and Catherine Prestia who resided in the Hell’s Kitchen neighborhood of New York City. Philip grew up in Woodside neighborhood of Queens, New York, with his mother after his father died in the early days of World War II.

He went on to graduate from Iona College in 1956.

After his graduation from college, Philip served with pride on active duty as an officer in The United States Marine Corps from 1956 to 1958, and as a reservist for the next ten years. He was Honorably Discharged at the rank of Captain. He was a proud American.

After leaving active duty in the Marine Corps, He served as a New York City Police Officer.

In 1960, He met the love of his life, Angelina (“Angela”) Petrolino, and they married on May 6, 1961. Together they built their home in Sheepshead Bay, Brooklyn. They spent summers and many weekends in Cranberry Lake, New Jersey, where Philip loved hosting family and friends. At their Cranberry Lake home, He proudly displayed the flags of the United States of America and the United States Marine Corps along the lakeside canal.

He was an active member of the Columbus Citizens Foundation in New York City. He could frequently be seen driving participants in New York City’s Columbus Day Parade, including many Disney characters and the Rockettes.

He and Angela always had amazing adventures when they traveled the world together and with friends.

In 1969, Philip proudly became a father when his daughter, Angela, was born.

In 1986, the family moved to Park Slope neighborhood in Brooklyn, where they resided for 34 years until recently moving to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

His family expanded in 2011, when his daughter married his son-in-law, Colin Dougherty; and again in 2014, when his grandson, Colin Joseph (“Joey”), and 2015, when his granddaughter, Francesca Marie, were born.

His moral compass was impeccable. He left an impression on everyone he met. “Oorah.”
