Dear Janelle,
This is your mom’s old friend, Gig, from Mastbaum Legal Secretary School days. We also worked together at Schnader, I believe. Today I was near your home on Oswald Street and decided to stop and see if Joanne was still there. When I saw the baby swing on the tree, I had a negative feeling but knocked anyway when I saw the “Longshore” door knocker. No answer. As any modern woman would do, I next went to Google and sadly learned of your mom’s recent passing. Please accept my deepest sympathy. Joanne was always a kind person and she loved you, Alicia and your dad with all her heart and soul. Being Jewish and living in NE Philly, your mom was the first Catholic I knew and she answered all my questions about Catholicism and taught me about the saints for different occasions. I will never forget the day she pulled out her pickled pigs feet sandwich for lunch! It was a real education.
May she be in peace now with her beloved George and your sister. Your dad was one of the kindest and most devoted men I knew.
I hope you and your family are all well and, again, I am very sorry for your loss. Your mom will always be in my memories.

Those we love don't go away, they walk beside us everyday. Unseen, unheard, but always near, still loved, still missed and very dear.

Our family has so many fond memories of our neighbors and friends from Oswald Street. George had such a soft spot for our children and enjoyed tossing them a football or bringing us a watermelon after a trip to the shore! We enjoyed many fun trips to Ocean City to spend time with Joanne, eating peach sundaes together, and remembering George at his memorial bench. We loved sharing different restaurants with Joanne or having her across the street for dinner. I thought I was sad the day we moved away, but now as we say goodbye to Joanne, I know true sadness. She will always be in our memories, and our love for her will always live in our hearts. ❤️❤️❤️ The McCracken Family
