Obituary of Elsie T. Kortrey
Elsie Therese Kortrey of Plymouth Meeting died peacefully at home on November 18 after a brief illness. She was 98. She is survived by her loving daughters, Wendy Kortrey of Astoria, NY and Faith Kortrey of Plymouth Meeting. She is also survived by a daughter-in-law Maureen Kortrey of Philadelphia, two grandsons, Dan Scognamiglio of Nevada and Michael Kortrey (Xi) of Oregon. In addition she is survived by a great-grandson, Remiel, of Oregon. Elsie’s son Neal predeceased her in 2008.
Elsie grew up in Jersey City, New Jersey, the daughter of German immigrants who operated a deli and grocery store there. She graduated with honors from Wagner College on Staten Island before she married and had children. In later years, Elsie worked as a public school teacher in Pennsylvania, from 1965 until 1986. While working, she earned her Master’s Degree in Education from Arcadia College (then Beaver College).
She enjoyed children, pets, reading, writing, music, long walks and frequent trips to the seashore.
A memorial service for Elsie is to be held at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church, 3025 Church Road, Lafayette Hill, PA 19444. The date and time for the service will be announced at St. Peters once plans are finalized. Interment will be private for family in New York state.
