Obituary of Catherine Minerva Wentz
Catherine M Wentz (Cathy) of Lafayette Hill, Pa., was born March 18, 1938, passed away Wednesday October 18, 2023.
Raised in Oreland, Pa., She was the daughter of the late Malvin and Beatrice (nee Foulke) Haubenstein. She was the beloved wife of the late C. Robert Wentz for 62 years and the loving mother of Catherine (Richard) Dattola, and Carolee (Gregory) Deuel. She was known as fun loving Oma to her four grandchildren, Victoria (Franklin) Bugg, Rebecca Dattola, Alexander Robert Deuel, and Elizabeth (Bryan) Whaley and was blessed with five great-grandchildren, Franklin Bugg, Violet Bugg, Michael Whaley, Grace Whaley, and Emma Whaley.
She was preceded in death by her bother Malvin Joseph Haubenstein (Joe). She is also survived by her beloved sister-in-law Marjory (nee Wentz) Johnson.
She graduated from Springfield High School in 1956. After high school she worked as a secretary until she became a wonderful mother and homemaker. Cathy was very involved with her children’s activities and was called “Mom Wentz” by many of her children’s friends. She cooked at church youth retreats, camped with the band at band camps, and could be seen driving the band vehicle in the fourth of July parade. When her children grew up, she returned to the workforce working for McNeil Pharmaceutical and Johnson & Johnson Pharmaceutical in Springhouse, Pa. She was also an active member of the St Peter’s Lutheran Church, Lafayette Hill, where she sang in the choir and participated in the annual Boar’s Head festivals.
She was a member of Eastern Star, and the Red Hatters.
Cathy enjoyed being with her family and friends. Among her closest friends were her husband’s first cousins who frequently got together for fun, travel, and good times.
Cathy and Bob raised their family in Oreland, Pennsylvania where they were surrounded by wonderful neighbors and friends.
Cathy and Bob enjoyed the Pocono mountains and spent many retirement years in their mountain home. They made many new friends at St. Paul Lutheran church and gathered for lunch at Cozy Corner Restaurant.
She spent her last 18 years living at the Masonic Village where she met many new friends and was known by the staff as a motherly figure who was always warm and welcoming. She knew all the residents’ names and was known to be the welcoming committee to new residents. At the village she enjoyed lively dinners with friends, working on the puzzle in the library, and exercising 3 times a week at the fitness center.
She will be remembered for being a kind-hearted person who enjoyed life.
A visitation will be held Monday October 23, 2023, at 10:00am at Saint Peter’s Lutheran Church 3025 Church Rd, Lafayette Hill, Pa 19444 with the memorial service starting at 11:00.
