Obituary of Earl D. Bill

Please share a memory of Earl to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Earl D. Bill of Flourtown, PA, sadly and suddenly passed away on Sunday, June 4, 2023. He was surrounded by loved ones since his beloved wife Jo-Ann M. Bill passed on July 16, 2018. He was the only child of John M. and Lillian Bill, born on August 12,1935 in Barrington, NJ. He. moved to Lafayette Hill as a young child.

He was one of the most accomplished athletes in Springfield H.S. history, starring in football, basketball, baseball and track. He was an usher at St. Peters Lutheran Church for 50 years. He also served in the National Guard.

Earl and Jo-Ann (his high school sweetheart) married May 4, 1957 and they raised three children, Mark, Sharon and Jeffrey. He worked extremely hard to send his three children to college. He coached his kids or attended their games and activities.

He adored and had a special relationship with his children’s spouses (Marie, Wayne, Debbie and Maria) and with each of his grandchildren (Jaclyn, Wesley, Casey, Madeline, Cara and Ryan), and great-grandchildren (Kennedy and Lochlan), often going to their games and activities.

Earl was a talented landscaper and gardener, starting his own landscaping business in 1970. To provide for his family, in the winters he tended bar at his father in-laws Wheel Pump Inn, drove a cab, painted houses, plowed snow for Whitemarsh Township, and supervised the ice-skating rink on the basketball courts of Miles Park. In 1975 the Widener/Dixon Estate hired him to care for their sprawling 300- acre property. He was a meticulous, kind and generous soul. His gardens were spectacular and magnificent.

He was an avid Philadelphia professional sports, Big 5 Basketball and Penn State football fan. He enjoyed playing golf and softball. His hobbies, besides watching sports, included tending his vegetable gardens and doing cross-word puzzles.

Earl had many high school and neighborhood life-long friends, many of them his children called Aunt and Uncle.

In addition, Earl will be greatly missed by his wife’s family, Rita Vecchione, his sister in-law and her children Tori, Rosemary, Drew, Joseph, Joanne, Francis, Michael and Chris as well as by Nancy Cuthbertson (nee Bill) (Aunt) and Glen Miller (Cousin).
