Joan volunteered at the Schuylkill Center for Environmental Education for many years and was known as one of the Library Ladies. She was highly organized and detail oriented. She also was fun loving and friendly to all. She called me her little sister when challenges arose and was always there to listen.
When holidays came we always talked about what pies we were baking. She was quite adept in the kitchen.
She adored all her family! She will be great missed by all!

I had the privilege of calling Joan a dear, close friend for over 65 years, since high school at Saint Mary's Academy in South Bend, Indiana. We were also neighbors whose families often enjoyed holiday celebrations together.
Joan's influence on my life is unique and immeasurable; I am full of gratitude to her.
In high school, she excelled in Latin, but she always preferred the funny version of "non illegitimi carborundum", which served as a life-long motto for both of us, as well as my daughter, who adored her.
Joan taught me how to laugh and be irreverent in the most engaging ways. She inspired me to take a class in ornithology in college; she taught me how to make zaatar. She was a steadfast and true friend with whom my mother and I enjoyed a trip to France in 1970. With her loving presence and vibrancy, she transformed my own mother's final days into a celebration of life. When we last met, in 2017, she generously allowed me the opportunity to spend quality time with her darling husband Nabil before his passing.
My daughter, Caroline, and I share the pain of losing Joan with her family and friends and send our deepest sympathy.

Joan was a gentle soul who was immediately liked, then easy to love.
The health and vitality of this planet was a personal mission for her.
She chose to approach life with a light and happy heart.
I will always miss her.
Good bye dear friend,
Christine ❤️
