I'm Barb Dodge and my family lived on Corson Road for about seven years. Fred and Jean, Allen, Nancy and myself. My mother was just talking about May a few weeks ago and I found she passed. I'm so sorry that we couldn't find her earlier. Blessings to the family. She was a very kind woman.

Mary was my second mother. She has been a part of my life since Steve and I were in Kindergarten. Peggy and I have been close friends for over 60 years. I spent vacations and endless hours after school at Mary's, even lived with Mary and Floyd for a time after graduating college. They were nothing but kind, generous, and supportive. For all of it, I will be forever thankful.
I am so lucky to have spent countless summers at Deep Creek Lake with Mary and her family. She was the life of the party. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her. She lived an incredible life and what an amazing imprint she left behind.

I don’t have a lot of specific memories at this point, but every vague memory I have of Mrs. J (as I called her), is her being this incredible ball of energy and the absolute BEST person to talk to. She was literally a shot in the arm every time I was around her (the good kind of shot, not tequila). My Grandparents Buck and Patricia Shelton lived next to Mary at 12 Dechert. Out of college, I lived with them for a couple of months and Mary would invite me over to tell me stories about all of the Shelton children getting into (mild) trouble. I would occasionally offer to shovel her driveway in the winter and in return, she would have Joe take me bowling on occasion. We share a birthday. I too was born Sept. 23rd and apparently she made some crazy promise to my parents that as long as she was alive and I was alive, she would send me money every birthday, which was a tall task. Not because of the money part, but because I moved almost every two years and was an absolute nomad. Come Sept. 23rd every year, she would find me. It didn’t matter where I was. We continued to keep in touch, usually talking once every Sept. Come Sept. 23rd this year, I’ll definitely miss my birthday twin. Sending so much love to her family. She was and always will be a great one

Q: What was Mary's favorite recipe?
A: My mother’s cinnamon buns! My parents Dave and Betty Manuel were life long friends. My dad passed away March 30, 2021 and Peggy made sure Mary could attend his services. Thank you Peggy! Mary was my God-Mother and we stayed connected. Steve and I share March 31 Birthdays and this year was the first time I can remember not getting a card. Sometimes still with cash in them! I will miss her terribly!! My love goes out to the entire family! Your are all in my prayers!!!

Mary lived two houses down from us on Dechert Road from 2003 until we moved in October of 2021. On her walks, she was always quick with a smile and a wave. When I took our boys Trick or Treating on Halloween, Mary would make them tell her a joke before she would give them any candy. When COVID happened, I insisted that Mary let me do her food shopping for her. For about 18 months, we would sit and have long chats after I delivered her weekly groceries. We talked about everything from our mutual love of reading, to politics (we didn’t agree - but we respectfully listened to each other’s side), to being a mom (she was so proud of her kids), to what life was like for her growing up in such different times. She loved when I would bring one/both of my sons with me for these weekly chats. The boys loved to pick her brain about history and they thought she told great stories. She always made me laugh. We miss her terribly.

We also live on Dechert Rd. Mary was our neighbor. She was aways walking up and down the road and loved to stop and talk with all of us on the street. She came to our house and had dinner with us a few times and always made us laugh. We were all fortunate to have spent time with her. She will be very much missed here on Dechert Rd. May she rest in peace. We hope all the good memories her family has experienced will help them reach their peace also. Friends and neighbors Candy and Joe Tanne.
