To the Flanagan Boys,
The loss of your Mom feels like an immense loss in many ways, but for me a huge loss of our shared childhood. That magical time when Your home across the street on Polk Rd was a bonafide second home to all of us growing up and thus, you were 4 bonus brothers and your Mom, well she was truly a second Mom. I remember "babysitting" countless days, watching countless train videos, playing on the deck and really just hanging out with my bonus brothers who unlike regular brothers, idolized us and genuinely always wanted us around.
But my favorite times were when your Mom was home or around too along with us. Listening to the radio, talking (& she always truly listened), and going on special little road trips to both sets of grandparents (bc I felt like a Flanagan too) or even those special weeks at the Shore. Your Mom was fun, loving, smart & stylish. I remember well trying to emulate her style with turtlenecks and blazers even back in H.S. I loved when we would go bargain shopping especially those trips to "Annie Sez" when I was older, it was such a special treat to be with your Mom. Aunt Elaine was always classy and timeless to me.
Above all though, she just loved being a Mom. She was so good with her boys and really all young children because she never spoke down to them- and she always had something unique to give- even if a thrifted book or favorite candy years later with my own daughters, she knew how to make you feel special. Your Mom was kind.
Your Mom loved you all so much- you were her world. She was and always will be so very proud. I am so sorry for this unimaginable loss.
We love you all.
Allison and Family

Our dearest Elaine, our hearts are so broken that we won't see you anymore. You were like a sister and we shared so many happy times, silly times, sad times and many great family memories. We are truly blessed to have had you in our lives. I know you had a very strong faith, your life has not ended but it has changed and someday we will be together again. In the meantime, we hang on to the beautiful memories and remain close to your wonderful family. Rest in peace and pray for all of us especially for Kevin, Kevin Jr, Matt, Andrew and Alessandra and Michael. You will always have a special place in our hearts and we will love you forever. Thank you for the beautiful memories. With much love and prayers always and forever, Lina and Tom and family.

Elaine,
You are already missed so much. Thank you for being such a wonderful friend to everyone. Thank you for being an aunt to me, for always being there and for being so generous and supportive. This picture was from this past summer at the shore. I wish I would've known it would be the last time that I saw you because I definitely would have hugged you longer.

The Flanagan Family has always been our immediate extended Family. Living across the street from each other was
a highlight of our lives. So many memories which our Aunt Elaine was an integral part in keeping the party swinging. Pictured here was our trip to Hilton Head which was one of my favorite vacations ever. Aunt Elaine has much to thank for that and we will miss her dearly.

Only Aunt Elaine could convince my son Bryce to wear the festive Christmas headgear, which he proudly wore all night:). She was always such a fun time and we will miss her dearly in more ways than we can ever express.

Undoubtedly, the early years of my life were marked daily by going back and forth from my home on Polk Rd across the street to our cousins, the Flanagans. Over the course of my life, whenever I heard songs like "DeBarge - Rhythm Of The Night" and "Kool & The Gang - Celebration," I thought of Aunt Elaine and those mornings coloring at that little table that was in the living room right next to the step by the kitchen. Forever in my mind is a picture of Aunt Elaine floating through the kitchen in the morning, always smiling and listening to B101.1 on her Sony clock radio that was mounted beneath the kitchen cabinets. You will be forever loved, missed, and celebrated, Aunt Elaine. I am grateful for you, period.

Q: What will you never forget about Elaine?
A: I will always remember two things about Aunt Elaine. The first is how much she loved her family. She was so selfless in everything she did, always putting the needs and wants of her family before herself. The second is how she treated my family. Aunt Elaine was so good to Zachary and Alina. She would come down to Georgia to spend time with our family. She would always visit when we made the trip to PA, always with a small snack or toy for the kids to make their trip that much more special. She was an incredible person that I am honored to know and love, and she will continue to be an inspiration to me. We love and miss you Aunt Elaine!

"Yeah. Hi. Me. I've got a quick one for you." Elaine, to think that I will never hear your trademark telephone call intro is unfathomable to me. Hon, I have caller id, so I knew it was you and I also knew that it was never going to be "a quick one". How I will miss those phone calls! We have so much history, that I could write a term paper (but I won't this time..), so here's the synopsis: You were a great big sister, a wonderful daughter to our mom, a second mom to Eleanor and a loving mom to the boys. Elaine, you were always late for everything, how could you have left us first? Love you, Jane

All the times we shared- the shopping, the shows, the shore, hours on the phone, the meals out or just staying in having tea and cookies together. You were always there, I can't imagine my world without you in it. Thirty-five years of friendship ending in an instant. How did you leave without giving me a warning? Or did I miss it? I pray for strength to get past this so I can appreciate all the many happy memories. Elaine, you will stay forever in my heart. If a picture is worth a thousand words, these are worth millions. With much love, my forever friend- Janet

Kevin (III), Matt, Andrew, Mike,
Your mom loved you all fiercely, was so proud of each and every one of you, and she spoke of each of you so warmly and so often, it seemed as if you all still lived at home---which we all know your mom would have loved, no matter how old each of you got. I am so glad she was so involved in your lives to give you many, many memories of her that I hope make you smile often in honor of the constant smile she always had for everyone.
Your mom never met a stranger and made everyone feel like a family member. She was more than just "Aunt Elaine" to me---she was a second mom, a great friend, and a person I will miss talking with and visiting with dearly. Even though we live in Ohio and didn't get back to PA as often as we would have liked, she was so wonderful to my Bryce, and he loved spending time with her too and constantly asked when we were going to visit again.
You will always be my "little cousins across the street', so please "cross the street" by picking up the phone at any time day or night if you need to or just want to talk about your mom.
Love,
Cousin Carolyn (Pishock)

When we bought our house across the street from the Flanagans, we were instantly welcomed with open arms. If you were lucky enough to be adopted by Elaine, you were lucky enough. As my husband spent the first 2 years gutting and renovating our new house on his own, Elaine would leave him a cooler at the bottom of our drive filled with drinks. The first time Steve came home (to where we had been living during renovations), he was astounded by how kind Elaine was. He said, "I brought the cooler back and knocked on the front door to thank her and she said, "honey, just leave it at the bottom of my drive when you're done each day and I'll get it. I know you're working hard over there." This simple act meant the world to Steve and also started his love affair with grapefruit seltzers.
Once we moved in, Elaine was a fixture in our lives. If we were outside playing with the kids, she was right there with us, especially on the most important days as Annika first learned to ride her bike and roller skate. She had the kids over to bake cookies for holidays and was ready each year with new tools to carve pumpkins with us for Halloween. Elaine never came empty handed. Whether she was yielding a bag of toys or books from the basement for the kids, a magazine she just finished that she knew I would enjoy, a puzzle she thrifted, a holiday decoration or the ever anticipated baked good {our girl made a mean sugar cookie}, she always had a little something ... I always enjoyed the, "honey I just got back from Costco and I bought too many rotisserie chickens so here you have to take one." I always laughed and asked her how it was possible to buy too many chickens in the first place. "I know you've been running around all day," she would say. "Just put it in a nice dish, throw some vegetables around it and pop it in the oven. Steve will think you've been cooking all day on top of everything else." {I apologize if I just blew up your spot, Laney, but this was too good not to share}. She understood where I was in life with 3 young kids and had an anthology of stories about her boys growing up and helpful hints for getting through it all. I wish I wrote it all down at the time.
Elaine was more than a neighbor. She became a grandmother to our children. Although there was a 31 year age gap between us, Elaine was a true girlfriend and even a second mom to my husband and I. I will cherish our time together. Although, I will always long for just one more chat in the middle of the street.

Jane & Eleanor -
Based on conversations with Elaine, I believe she really appreciated her visits with you in Virginia and the time she had with you when you visited PA to spend time with her. I will miss her and my heart breaks for you to lose another family member this month. I will pray for healing and strength and peace during this challenging time in your life.

Kevin III, Matthew, Andrew and Michael -
I believe each of you made your mom proud. I will remember how generous she was with her time and even if she was late to find out what was happening in others' lives, she was quick to respond and let them know that she was thinking of them and praying for them and supporting them in any way she could. I will miss our walks and talks along the river path or meandering through local gardens. I will miss her as a prayer warrior. Her faith got her through some tough times, and I hope you can renew your faith to get through these upcoming days as you adjust to your lives without her unconditional love, support and cheering from the sidelines. I will keep each of you in prayers.
Love, Aunt Maureen
