Maria and I had been friends since childhood and had many things in common—both of us were very shy, lived in neighboring communities as well as loved and cared for people even when we were young. Back in the day her nickname was “Tilly”. Maria was selfless in her giving to others even when she had little. She made amazing Italian dishes and cookies that we enjoyed at our MTHS girls outings. This photo was from our Christmas get-together in December 2014. She was a kindhearted soul and I know she’s at peace with God now.

I met Maria in high school in 1966. She was always so sweet, and I don't think I ever saw her when she wasn't smiling. We lost touch when she went away to college, but we reconnected at our class reunions. We became close, and Maria visited us in Cape May Court House several times. In true Maria fashion, she always brought cookies or an Italian dish she had made. We shared so many stories during her visits. I will miss our phone calls and the visits, but mostly I will miss Maria. The photo of Maria, my husband, Pete, and myself was taken in September, 2021 when we attended the MTHS Multi-Class Reunion. This was the last time Maria and I were together. The other photo was taken at a Christmas party at my house around 2016. All of us had gone to high school together.

I went all through elementary school and high school with Maria. She was always smiling and so much fun to be around. I was so happy to reconnect with her in these past years at our high school reunions. Here we are at our last one. If you met Maria you would never forget her.
