Obituary of Lois E. DeSoo

Lois DeSoo was born in Philadelphia to David and Jeanette Archibald.  She had one younger sister, Barbara.  Growing up she enjoyed summers in Indiana and Michigan with her family.  Lois graduated from Germantown High School in 1949.  While in high school,  she met the love of her life, F. Kenneth DeSoo (Ken).   A week before Ken was deployed to fight in the Korean War, they married at The Presbyterian Church of Chestnut Hill on September 8, 1951.   

While Ken was in Korea, Lois lived with her parents in Wyndmoor and worked at Sears & Roebuck Company in the Accounting Department.  When Ken returned, they moved to an apartment in Chestnut Hill before buying their first home in Wyndmoor.  In 1965 they moved to Erdenheim to raise their family which included their sons, Robert and Thomas, and daughter,   Deborah.  She is survived by six grandchildren including David, Laura, Geoffrey, Katie, Cole, and Jesse who will always remember her beloved “dreaded red cheek”.

Lois was a very devoted woman.  She dedicated her life to raising her children and taking care of elderly family members.  She was a lifelong volunteer at many organizations including The Presbyterian Church of Chestnut Hill, Presbyterian Children's Village, Meals on Wheels, Roxborough Memorial Hospital, and Cape Regional Hospital.

In 1990, Lois and Ken moved to Cape May for a wonderful retirement.  Lois and Ken became active members of Cold Spring Presbyterian Church.  She was an avid volunteer at Cape Regional Hospital where she was in the Women’s Auxiliary and was Manager of their gift shop for many years.   In 2017, they moved into Normandy Estates in Bluebell, PA.  Ken and Lois would have been celebrating their 71st wedding anniversary this year. 

Throughout their happy life together, Lois and Ken enjoyed traveling the world, dancing, and being with family and friends.  Lois had a wonderful sense of humor with a laugh that would make others smile.  She loved playing games and was quite the card shark.  Another passion of Lois’ was cooking and cooking shows.  She is also remembered as “Swamy Mommy” for reading tea leaves during our annual Memorial Day picnics. 

 Lois was a loyal wife, mother, and grandmother.  She was a selfless, kind, honest, and generous woman.
