Julieanne C. Groody, 86, formally of Springfield, Delaware County, passed away on Saturday, May 28th at St. Joseph’s Villa in Flourtown.

Jule was born on February 7, 1936 in the upstate coal town of Ashland, PA.  She was the daughter of Patrick Groody and Florence (MacMurtrie ) Groody.   Jule was the best sister, aunt, friend, coworker, companion and confidante you could ever ask for.

Jule was a graduate of St. Joseph’s high school in Ashland where she was active in cheerleading, school plays and was class valedictorian.  She formed lifelong friendships during these years including her two best friends from Kindergarten, Frances and Yvonne.  Following graduation, Jule traveled to Allentown to attend Sacred Heart Hospital where she earned her RN.  She was a proud nurse for over 40 years, which included stints at Polyclinic Hospital and Columbia Presbyterian in NYC.  The bulk of her excellent career was spent at Bryn Mawr Hospital.

Jule was the youngest of 7 children and was devoted to her 6 siblings and her many nieces and nephews. She hosted many holiday and birthday dinners including her famous yearly St. Patrick’s Day party. She was very proud of her Irish Ancestry.  Jule also never missed an important event in the lives of her nieces and nephews. From baptisms, First Communions, showers and weddings.  She was always there, impeccably dressed and always with her beautiful smile.

Jule was completely devoted to her longtime companion, Alfred Darrah.  They took many wonderful trips together.  From cruises to visits to Europe, Alaska, Canada, New England and Cape May, they always had a great time.  They enjoyed each other’s company for almost 60 years.

In addition to Alfred, Jule is survived by her sister-in-law, Catherine Groody Grief of Notre Dame, Indiana and many nieces and nephews.  She was predeceased by her siblings, Florence Ward, Francis Groody, Clement Groody, William Groody, Jean Crane and Edward Groody.
