Jean Cochran Butler, age 84, of Lafayette Hill, PA, died on February 24, 2022. She was born in Prospect Park, PA in 1937, to her parents, Walla and Jean Cochran.

 

Jean was a proud graduate of Interboro High School in Prospect Park. She trained and worked at Fitzgerald Mercy Hospital as a medical technician and then went to work at Sun Oil Company. Standing close to 6’1, she was crowned “Miss Tall Philadelphia” in 1959. The next year, she met the love of her life, Donald Butler, “down the shore,” in Margate, NJ. They married in 1961 and were together over 61 years.

 

She moved to Lafayette Hill in 1973 and volunteered in many organizations, including the St. Philip’s Women’s Guild, while raising her three children. She loved the medical field and caring for and helping others and she returned to work as a medical assistant for several doctor offices in the area.

 

Jean excelled in all sports, especially loving tennis and golf. Before retiring her clubs, she had two holes-in-one. She participated in the Montgomery County Senior Games for many years, winning medals in all different events, including golf, pickleball, darts, bocce and the stationary bike.

 

Jean was predeceased by her brothers, Stanton and Peter Cochran, her sister, Meg Devitt, and her granddaughter, Rachel Lancellot.

 

She is survived by her loving husband, Donald, her daughters, Joan (Richard Lancellot) and Jennifer (late Tim Conway), and her son, Donald (Pam). Her six grandchildren were the light of her life. She recently became a great grandmother.

 

A Funeral Mass will be held at St. Philip Neri Catholic Church, 437 Ridge Pike, Lafayette Hill, PA 19444 on Friday, April 22, 2022, at 11:00 am (Visitation from 10:00 am – 11:00 am). In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting donations in Jean’s name should be sent to St. John’s Hospice, 1221 Race St., Philadelphia, PA 19107 or to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
