Obituary of Craig T. Kennerly
Craig Travis Kennerly, 81, of Plymouth Meeting, PA, passed away at home on January 13, 2022, with his wife Martha “Marty” Kennerly by his side.
Craig was born in Knoxville, TN on June 15, 1940, as the first child of Warren Wesley Kennerly and Lucile Donaldson Kennerly. Craig grew up in Knoxville, with his sisters Lucy Kennerly Gump and Mary Kennerly Myers. He attended MacMurray College in Jacksonville, IL for his Bachelors, and Clark University in Worcester, MA for his Masters Degree.
Craig was married to his wife of 44 years, Martha “Marty” Carr Kennerly, and had four children William, Kathryn, Andrew, and Benjamin.
Craig worked as an accountant for Devereux Advanced Behavioral Health in southeast Pennsylvania for 47 years. He passionately worked at the schools he served until his retirement in 2018.
Craig was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, son, brother, and friend. He had an innate ability to remember details from the conversations he had with others, and would be sure to follow up on things he was told. Craig’s “blood ran orange” for University of Tennessee football each Fall. He loved to study weather patterns. With the Weather Channel tuned in and his weather radio close at hand, he used his knowledge to ensure those around him were prepared for life’s storms. He loved maps and orienteering—a passion and pastime he shared with his children. His innate sense of direction allowed him to guide his loved ones safely to their destinations with great precision. He deeply enjoyed trains and their history, seeking them throughout North America as they came to flawlessly fit into weekend day trips and family vacations. Craig found rejuvenation at vacations to his childhood cabin, “Kenrock”, at Norris Lake in Tennessee, as well as his married vacation cabin at Lake Naomi in Pennsylvania. He found joy in solo early morning canoe voyages, as well as instilling in his children the finer points of canoe safety and good clean fun at the lake.
Craig is survived by his wife Marty, of Plymouth Meeting, PA; his children William, of Niskayuna, NY; Kathryn of Chalfont, PA; Andrew of Plymouth Meeting, PA; and Benjamin of Berkeley, CA; as well as his grandchildren Zoe, Max, Calvin, and Thomas; and sister, Mary Myers of Nashville, TN.
He was predeceased by his father Warren Kennerly, his mother Lucile Kennerly, and his sister Lucy Gump.
Craig was interred on January 18, 2022, at Gulph Christian Cemetery, in Conshohocken, PA, following a private service with his family at Lownes Funeral Home.
