Obituary of Laura Anne Wertley

Please share a memory of Laura to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Anne Wertley, 91, of East Norriton passed away peacefully on Saturday, June 19th in her home at Brightview Senior Living Apartments. Born in Yeadon, PA on February 13th, 1930 she was the only child of the late William Dill, Jr. and Elizabeth Dill Panetta.

Anne graduated from Yeadon High School in Yeadon, PA in the class of 1948. She was married to Charles Wertley for 62 years before his passing in 2012. She is survived by her four wonderful children, Charles Jr. (and daughter-in-law Lucy), Linda Don (late husband David Don), Diane, and Thomas (and daughter-in-law Sharon); 9 grandchildren - Allison, Alexandra, Julianne, Patrick, Adam, Justin, Leah, Brady and Evan; and 2 great grandchildren - Zoey and Peyton.

Anne’s career legacy remains highly revered today at the Montgomery County SPCA. She cared for the animals there for 37 years and to this day the staff still refer to the office desk where she sat as “Anne’s desk”. There is a commemorative plaque hanging in the lobby to express gratitude for her many years of outstanding service.

Family and friends will forever remember Anne for her unwavering selflessness and kindness for others. She would always put others’ needs before her own no matter how trivial the need may have seemed. She would find the best in everyone and judge no one. She loved animals, birds and flowers- hydrangeas being her favorites. Favorite movie was Gone with the Wind because she had a secret crush on Clark Gable. Her demeanor was calm and patient. She was an amazing role model for all who met her and were fortunate enough to be a part of her life. There are not enough words to express how much she meant to her family and friends and left a large impact on all lives she touched.

There will be a public viewing on Saturday, June 26thfrom 11am-12noon followed by a short service at Lownes Family Funeral Home, 659 Germantown Pike, Lafayette Hill, PA.  A private gathering to lay her to rest will follow at Valley Forge Memorial Gardens in King of Prussia, PA.

Contributions may be made in memory of Anne’s passion for animals to Montgomery County SPCA, 19 E. Ridge Pk., Conshohocken, PA 19428 (610) 825-0111.
