Obituary of Stanley W. Glodek
Stanley W. Glodek, Sr, formerly of Lafayette Hill, passed away peacefully on March 20, 2021 after a brief illness. He was 97 years old.
Stan was born in 1923 in the Manayunk section of Philadelphia to Walter and Sophie (nee Lagowska) Glodek, both immigrants from Poland. He grew up during the Great Depression with his parents and six siblings. His life was marked by service. He was a crew member on the Coast Guard frigate the USS Allentown, which fought in the South Pacific during World War II. After the war, he served his neighbors and friends as a US Postal Service letter carrier in the hills of Manayunk for over 35 years. Throughout his life, he was always there to help his friends and family in any way he could – painting, paperhanging, home repairs, rescuing someone stranded on the road – Stan was always ready and willing to help. He gave so much and asked for little, because that’s what he believed a life well-lived was all about.
Stan’s joys were his family. He was married to the love of his life Terese (nee Ranizewski) for 69 years until her passing in 2016. They were a loving, devoted, respectful and inseparable couple, setting an example of service to each other and their family. Stan is survived by his 5 children: Walt (late wife Sharon), Stan (Mary Jo), Donna Manderachi (Ben), Denise Janick (John) and Mike (Meredith).
In addition to his children, Stan’s legacy will live on through his 18 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-grandchild. One of the most precious memories of each Glodek year was the traditional Christmas Eve gathering at Mom Mom and Pop Pop’s modest house where 40+ family and friends would cram together to celebrate the holiday.
Stan is survived by his brother Joe and his sister Becky Johnston. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Henry, sister Mary Lemanowicz, sister Nellie Posluszny and brother Frank.
