The service yesterday was a beautiful, moving tribute to a wonderful man in every sense of the word. Our son Jack was fortunate enough to be born the same hockey year as Jack Petersohn which meant he was coached by Bill for 7 years. His last year playing organized hockey he and Jack played for the Haverford Hawks and since Bill was coaching he generously offered to drive him to practice twice a week all year as well as many long road trip games. Initially we thought we were lucky to avoid all of those long night time drives on 476. However looking back on it our luck was in having Jack be able to spend so much time with Bill. We could not have asked for a better person to be a role model for our son during those formative years. I’m sure there are so many others that feel similarly. What a legacy to have such a profound impact on so many children and young men.
During those 7 years we never heard of one complaint, not one from our son about Bill. Even though I’m sure there were times he had to be tough with him Jack had nothing but respect and appreciation for Bill. Jack knew Bill always had his best interest at heart. It’s rare that a coach can have a lot of fun joking around and treating a player likes one of his frat buddies yet have complete respect and authority when needed.
As we all heard yesterday Bill was a special individual who could pull this off.
We will always cherish those special times and memories we had with Bill and he will forever hold a place in our hearts for him.
Pete, Kathy and Jack Soens

I’ve known Bill for 40 years, but we always saw each other randomly. The last 5-6 years we reconnected and saw and talked with each other on a regular basis. Bill brought me in to work with MCT and their insurance. I have friends and clients, but I never had a friend help and care about my success as much as Bill. He truly was the happiest when his friends or family were successful and he could help
I spent a lot of time talking to Bill the few years and I was jealous of his relationship with Heidi. He never said a negative thing about her she was truly his best friend
He also loved his sons so much, his eyes lit up when talked about them
Bill was a great father and husband and one of the most loyal friends I could ever have. I will really miss his sense of humor and his funny text messages, but what I will miss the most is his loving heart. He was one of a kind
Love

The world is a better place because Bill Petersohn was in it.
Our family has had the privilege of knowing Bill Petersohn for over 15 years. Margaret met Bill when she was interviewing for a sales job at GMAC. One of Margaret’s career goals was to learn more about the capital markets side of the business. During her interview, Bill told Margaret, “If you take the job, I will help you learn more on the capital market side—it will be fun!” Margaret took the job at GMAC because of Bill. Bill invested in Margaret’s career by teaching her and mentoring her.
For us, the hallmarks of Bill were he always was giving to others, he was always investing in others, and he made life, work and play fun. We have so many special memories of Bill.
When Margaret’s daughter Maddy wanted to get a summer internship at GMAC, Bill immediately said “Hey, have Maddy stay with us.” And, Maddy did. She lived at the Petersohn house for the summer. The Petersohns made Maddy feel like part of the family. During the summer, Margaret came to stay at the Petersohns and discovered Maddy was having so much fun she might not want to come back home ever. One of her favorite things was walks with all the family pets. We would take Molly (their chocolate lab) and Emery (their brand new puppy) on walks and much to our amazement, Tiger (the cat) would follow us! During this trip, Heidi completed a triathlon. Bill, Maddy and Margaret got the pleasure of seeing Heidi swim and then cheering her on as she crossed the finish line running. While spending this precious time with the Petersohn family, we were both struck by how Bill was such a great example of a loving and supportive husband as well as being such a proud and amazing father. The Petersohn home is a home full of love – we feel so blessed to have been welcomed so warmly into it!
We also loved Bill’s sense of humor and the stories he would tell. Once, he compared the scene in the movie “Annie Hall” when Woody Allen goes to meet his girlfriend’s family, to his own experience. Annie Hall is an only child and the contrast with Woody Allen’s large and funny Jewish family is a great part of the movie. Bill explained that this scene pretty much sums up when he went to visit Heidi’s family.
We loved Bill’s sense of adventure. One winter, the Petersohn family came to our home in Reno to ski at Tahoe during Easter break. To this day, when we are skiing at Mt. Rose (the local family ski resort), Paul often stops and says, “Hey, let’s take a picture and send it to Bill.” Bill and Margaret always enjoyed talking about the different traditions of the Jewish faith and the Catholic faith. In addition to lots of fun skiing and snowboarding, the Petersohn and Chiavini families had two special evenings celebrating Passover during their visit out west. The Petersohns shared their Passover traditions with us and were kind enough to allow us to return the favor from our religious tradition. This was typical of Bill—Bill was someone who cared more about how people were connected than about how they were different.
As Bill was dealing with his cancer, Margaret really wanted to go and visit him. She was planning to visit Maddy in NYC, and called Bill to let him know that she would take the train from NYC to PA to visit. In true Bill fashion of always making things easy on others, he said “Margaret, I have my chemo in NYC next Wednesday, we could meet there!” Margaret, Paul and Maddy spent the afternoon with Bill and Jack while Bill had his chemo treatment. We laughed and joked and reminisced about the wonderful times we’ve had together.
Bill will always have a deeply special place in the heart of the Chiavini family.
With all our love,
Margaret, Paul and Maddy Chiavini

To the family of Bill Petersohn:
My deepest sympathies go out to all of you during this difficult time.
Bill was the kindest and most patient person I have ever dealt with in my 35 year business career. He had the unique ability of explaining and teaching complex mortgage hedging concepts, so that I understood them, without making me feel uncomfortable when I would invariably ask him to repeat them.
A famous quote from Maya Angelou comes to mind when I think of Bill...“At the end of the day people won't remember what you said or did, they will remember how you made them feel.”
Having never met Bill in person and knowing how good he made me feel, I can only imagine and believe that he made everyone else he ever came in contact with feel the exact same way.
Rest in Peace Bill, not only did you run the race of life, you won it.

There’s not many compassionate, yet tough, quality people left in our world. It seems like many of us have to choose which side of the coin we’ll land on, especially when it comes to the way we treat others, & most importantly, the way we treat our kids. Yet, Bill was able to do both with ease and this is clear with his two sons, Jack and Drew. During the few years I’ve known Bill, I’ve never had another friend’s parents help me feel at home as much as I felt whenever I was with the Petersohn family. Whether we were at a Penn State tailgate, the suburbs or Philly, or even in the foreign streets of Granada, Bill brought home with him wherever he went.
My fondest memory with Bill goes back to Spring of 2017 when his son Drew and I were studying abroad in Granada. Somehow, I managed to screw up my dad’s trip into town, so I woke up, hungover, to my pops asking for me at the IES Abroad downtown center (& yes, my dad was very, VERY angry). Coincidently, Bill, Heidi, & Jack were also in Granada for the weekend, so Drew thought it would be a great (and funny) idea for all of us to hang out together. Anyone who knows my dad knows he’s not too fond of people (and a bit of me!) But to my surprise, my pops and Bill hit it off throughout our hike & dinner together. So even though the day started off as a bad dream (and I truly thought it was), Bill & the rest of the Petersohn’s family’s welcoming & affable spirit helped turn a bad day into a day I’ll never forget. So, thank you Bill for the memories & the example you set, I’ll never forget that day and all the times you cheeringly embraced me & my family. One love fam…JZ

I met Bill when I was 8 years old. I immediately fell in love with his sweet and caring nature, but always with a dash of sarcasm and wittiness that I appreciated! To say I’m sad about his passing is an understatement, as my heart breaks not only for him, but for his beautiful wife, wonderful sons, his father, and his sister and brother who all loved him dearly!
Bill and I had recently been texting right before he got sick and he was always interested in my son’s ice hockey, and even tried to make it to one of his games at Wissahickon. Unfortunately, it didn’t happen, but the fact that he cared enough will always be held deeply in my heart. Bill, I’ll miss you at Passover dinners, big Israelite family events, and will always hold our fondest memories deep in my heart. Who is going to bust my chops about my addiction to posting on Facebook ;) Love you, Bill

Bill was a true gentleman and I'll always remember our last round of golf together. He was able to get a last minute appointment at Penn for a specialist and had to leave after 4 holes. He told me he would be back to finish the round and as everyone knows Bill he showed up with a few holes to play and just made everyone laugh those last couple holes. He was very thoughtful and always put everyone a head of himself. When the MCT exchange started he asked me what will get you downstairs to the exchange at 7:30AM I told him you need a Bloody Mary bar and people will come in droves. Well as everyone knows that is now a staple at the exchange and thanks to Bill for listening we can forever enjoy that 7:30AM Bloody Mary will Bill. I want to send my condolences to Heidi, Drew and Jack. Bill will be missed dearly and I hope you find comfort in the future.

Bill brought me in to MCT over 7 years ago, but he was more than a boss. He was a mentor and someone to emulate in the mortgage industry. I will always remember his genuineness and kindness in sharing his wisdom with so many of us. Bill made everyone feel valued and empowered, and he brought levity and witty humor to the office even while he was courageously fighting. MCT and our Philly office will miss Bill greatly but his legacy will not be forgotten. Thoughts and condolences to Heidi, Drew, Jack, Lori, Josh and the entire family.

The picture portrays all you need to know about Bill Petersohn. In his darkest days the smile remained, astounding all of us who knew better about his travails. Resident within that glorious smile was his love of life, his love of family, his love of friends, his work ethic, his willingness to give of himself to others, especially as a hockey coach, and his unflagging courage.
I was a close friend of Bill’s for twenty + years. Our good times together seemed to always be bound up for some reason with hockey; and too numerous to mention, except one particular time: At a recent Wissahickon Skating Club golf tournament, Bill, as a very generous sponsor, took it upon himself as a condition of his largesse, to insist that the tourney golf ball bear my name with an added inscription. Hockey inscriptions tend not to be politically correct. So, to this day it seems inappropriate for my grandchildren to play a round with those golf balls. I still have a sleeve or two of those balls, which will stay unplayed, kept close to me in a special place as a tender reminder of what a great guy and what a good friend was Bill Petersohn.
There is no loss so great as that of immediate families who lose a love one so young with so much life still to live and so much still to give to all. So the loss for Heidi, Jack, Dru, Josh, Lori and Dr. Petersohn is beyond describing. But let me aver that the loss felt by Bill Petersohn’s friends is a close second.

For the limited time that I came to know Bill, he made an impact on my professional life at MCT. He was a champion of knowledge and education and I always knew him as a patient and positive supporter of MCT employees and clients. Bill was always giving if his time and frequently offered assistance whenever it was needed - and to whomever needed it. Our thoughts and prayers are with Heidi, Drew, Jack and the entire Petersohn family.
Bill has always been a strong personal advocate for many people (myself included), an ambassador of our mortgage industry, MCT and all things good. We all enjoy Bill’s quick wit and humor and at the core was his care and concern for us as an individual and our success. He always looked for ways to help others as a true gentleman servant with humility and I always admired that about Bill. He did things out of goodness of his heart without expecting things in return.
The blessing is we had Bill in our lives and his impact on us will live on for many years to come. I am glad to see his legacy lives on with everyone whose lives were impacted by Bill's caring nature, empathy and goodness. Thank you Heidi and Petersohn family for sharing Bill with us.

Bill was a phenomenal coach to my oldest son last year. He imparted his love of the game and pushed him to be a better player. As was Bill's nature, he frequently provided Luca with some good-natured jabs. But over the course of the year, Bill gave my son confidence in playing hockey that he lacked prior and what more could you ask for from a youth coach for your child. Hockey and his friends will miss Bill greatly and my thoughts are with his family. Thank you for everything, Bill.
