Obituary of Robert A. Gill

On November 17th, 2020, Dr. Robert A. Gill passed away at age 92 after a full life. Born in Darlington, England, he received his Ph.D. in Chemistry from Durham University, Newcastle and worked as a Lt. Commander for the Royal Naval Scientific Service Admiralty Materials Laboratory until immigrating to Philadelphia in 1958. He came to the United States with his new wife Margaret and infant daughter Genevieve initially for a three year position in research at Rohm & Haas Chemical Co. Bob enjoyed his work and the United States so much that he remained with the company in various exciting research positions retiring after 32 years and became a US citizen.
Bob and Margaret raised three children in Abington, PA before moving to The Hill at Whitemarsh in Lafayette Hill, PA. He was an avid life long sailor, winning many races over the years. Bob also enjoyed tennis, walking, bird watching, watercolor painting and engaging conversations with family and friends. He was known for his intelligence, wit and interest in all those around him.
Bob is preceded in death by his beloved wife of 61 years, Margaret Brewer Gill and survived by children Genevieve (Tom), Christopher (Susan) and Suzanne (Tom), grandchildren, Tom, Ashlyn, Ian and Caitlin.
There will be a private internment.
