Obituary of Joan G. McKeon
Joan Gallagher McKeon, a loving wife and mother, devout Catholic, loyal and gracious friend, passed away peacefully in Ambler on February 26, 2020. She was 89 years old.
Born in Philadelphia on June 16, 1930, she was the daughter of the late Joseph F. Gallagher and Eleanor Halloran Gallagher. Joan graduated from Mount St. Joseph Academy and Rosemont College with a BA in History. On St. Patrick’s Day 1954, Joan married the love of her life,Edwin M. McKeon and they enjoyed 65 years of marriage together.
Joan was an avid golfer achieving 3 Hole in Ones and 3 Club Championships during her long golf career. She participated in the Women’s GAP Interclub Team matches for 32 years and captained her Cedarbrook CC team. Joan was a former member of The Philadelphia Cricket Club, Whitmarsh Valley Country Club, Cedarbrook Country Club, The Landings Club and Saucon Valley Country Club. When not on the golf course, Joan enjoyed spending time with her family and friends at her homes in Jenkintown, Margate, Savannah and then later in Naples, Florida. Her gardening and entertaining expertise were well known. In 1982, Joan found a new calling as a Park House Guide for The Philadelphia Museum of Art. Joan also enjoyed her membership in the Valley Green Questers.
In addition to her husband, Ed, Joan is survived by her sister, Patricia Gallagher Beers. Her 5 loving children, Pamela (Michael) McDonald, Edwin (Peggy) McKeon, Joseph McKeon, Richard McKeon and Elizabeth (Neil) Rohrer. Her beloved 10 grandchildren, Christen (Brian) Meyer, Michael McDonald, Caitlin (Marc) Murphy, Teddy (Caitlin) McKeon, Tripp McKeon, Kayla & Lindsey Rohrer, Elinor, Katherine & Susan McKeon. Her cherished great grand children, Patrick & William Meyer and Harrison Burt. Joan is also survived by her many cousins, nieces and nephews.
Visitation will take place on Tuesday, March 3, 2020 from 9:30am to 11:00am at St. Philip Neri Catholic Church, 437 Ridge Pike, Lafayette Hill, PA. Funeral Mass will begin at 11:00am. Interment at Holy Sepulcher Cemetery.
