Obituary of Stanley H. Tippett

Stanley H. Tippett passed away on Sunday morning January 26, 2020 at the age of 100. Stan was born and raised in the Manayunk/Roxborough area of Philadelphia where he met his wife Dorothy (Rumsey) of 71 years. They have 3 children; Steve, Mark & Wendy 3 Grandchildren; Nicole, Mimi, & Leslie and 3 Great Grandchildren; Leah, Luke and Daphne. Stan was a devoted employee of Container Corporation of America (CCA) for over 47 years. At 17 he worked in the Mill at the Manayunk location and retired at 65 as the Director of Transportation at the Chicago Office. Noted accomplishments included the elimination of demurrage and an innovative boxcar design. Stan served in the Army Air Force in Eglin Field, Florida during WWII. His experience in transportation at CCA positioned him in a similar role. Stan's accomplishments and contributions promoted him to Master Sergeant. Stanley was a religious man and devoted much of his free time participating in Church activities such as teaching Sunday School. He was either a committee member or a leader. He also served as a Deacon. He was always willing to lend an ear for those needing a good listener. He offered rides to and from church or elsewhere for those having transportation issues. His selfless actions of kindness reached many people inside and outside the Church community. Stanley was an avid golfer. He was fortunate to play on many courses throughout the United States due to his work travel for CCA. He continued to enjoy and play many rounds of golf weekly with family and friends in the Philadelphia area following retirement. Funeral Service Friday Jan 31st, 10:30 A.M. at the Oreland Evangelical Presbyterian Church, 1119 Church Rd., Oreland, PA 19075. Viewing 9:30-10:30 A.M. at Church. Interment George Washington Memorial Park. Memorial donations may be made to the above Church or a charity of the donor's choice.
