We knew it was coming and yet when we heard that she passed it was a shock. Ida, my mother-in-law, was a strong life force who in the past few years, survived surgeries and illnesses. I think there was a part of all of us that thought she was invincible.
She had strong opinions, fiercely loved her family, cooked amazing dishes, kept a beautiful and welcoming home...she loved her sons, delighted in her grandsons, great-grands, nieces, nephews, children of close friends, and even learned to love our dogs.
She loved to sew but will be remembered most for her cooking and made the best meatballs, peas and pasta, and Italian wedding soup I've ever had. No one who came to her home went away hungry!
I'll miss you, Mom. I know we didn't always see eye to eye but that didn't matter because love is so much stronger than disagreements. I hope you're dancing with Pop or in a beautiful kitchen serving all who arrived before you because I know for sure that they missed your cooking...even in heaven.
