Obituary of Leona M. Kerrane-Pijawka
Leona M. (Lee) Kerrane Pijawka, 82, of Lafayette Hill, PA passed away on Monday, October 21 at the Fairview Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Chestnut Hill.
Her funeral service will be held at St. Philip Neri Church (437 Ridge Pike, Lafayette Hill) on Friday, October 25 at 11 a.m. The burial will follow at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery. Visitation will be held at St. Philip Neri on Friday from 10 a.m. - 11 a.m. Lownes Family Funeral Home will be handling the arrangements.
Lee was born in Philadelphia on April 10, 1937 to parents Anthony and Leona (D'Angelo) Giordano. She attended the Germantown High School for Girls before earning her bachelors degree from the University of Pennsylvania. While at Germantown High School, Lee was editor-in-chief of the school yearbook, captain of the bowling team, and president of the honor society. Continuing her leadership abilities as a junior in the School of Education at U of P, Lee was elected Chairman of the Senior Board of Bennet Club, the women’s student union at Penn recreational, social, and cultural activity center for the University’s 1200 women undergraduates. Lee was a member of the National Education Sorority Kappa Delta Epsilon. She was also a senior orientation leader, the captain of the women’s bowling team, and was the chairman of the junior class companion program. She later earned a Masters degree from the former Beaver College. Lee was a teacher who taught for more than 30 years, first in the Hatboro-Horsham School District before spending most of her career in the Colonial School District, teaching English and Math at Whitemarsh Junior High, Plymouth Whitemarsh High School and the Colonial Middle School. She retired from teaching in 1998.
Her passions included the Phillies, Big 5 basketball, Frank Sinatra and anything chocolate.
She is survived by two children, Jack (wife Karen) and Tom, along with two grandchildren, Kaila and Sean. She is preceded in death by her husband, Walter C. Pijawka, and her first husband, John P. Kerrane.
