Obituary of Edward D. Bateman
Edward D. Bateman; age 96, of Lafayette Hill, passed away on Wednesday July 31,2019 at Wyndmoor Hills Premier Subacute Care. He was born on Easter Sunday, April 1,1923 to parents George and Eva (Dustmen)Bateman. As a child his mother always told him the Easter Bunny brought him! Ed was the second oldest of 4 boys (George, Edward, Jack, and Howard). He graduated in 1941 from Frankford High School. During WWII, like many young men at that time, Ed went into the Army. Although he was state side, men in his company saw action in Europe including his brother George a bomber pilot. Ed had made lasting bonds with his fellow soldiers staying in contact with them over the years.
After his time in the army Ed got a job at Yale and Town where he met his future wife Rose Nutter. They married in 1947 at St. Bernard's Church in Philadelphia but soon moved to Lafayette Hill where they raised 5 children (Edward, Michael, Kevin,Robert, and Colleen). Ed involved himself in the community as a Little League coach in Whitemarsh Township. He also was an active member of St. Philip Neri Church.
Edward was President of Bateman Brothers Lumber Company for over 40 years. He retired at age 65 but was still involved with the business as a consultant until his death.
A big part of Ed's life with his family was vacationing in Stone Harbor, NJ. There he made wonderful memories for his family that they cherish.
Later in life Ed loved to travel with his wife Rose and their beloved friends. Seeing the beauty and experiencing firsthand places like Hawaii, Spain and Ireland (and many others) made memories that would last a life time. And then there was his regular trips to Florida, Las Vegas, and Laughlin Nevada with family and friends. Wonderful memories for all!
Ed was a devoted and loving husband, son, father, grandfather, and great grandfather. He always said "Family is Everything"! His love, guidance, generosity,and his memories of family and friends that he shared will live on in all the people that his life touched. He will be greatly missed.
Ed is preceded in death by his parents, his wife Rose of 71 years ,his three brothers and his oldest son Edward. He is survived by his children Mike, Kevin, Bob and Colleen; 10 grandchildren, and 13 great grandchildren.
neral Mass will be held on Tuesday, August 6 at 11:00 AM at St. Philip Neri Church, 437 Ridge Pike, Lafayette Hill.
A visitation will be held on Tuesday, August 6 from 9:30 to 11:00 am at the church before the funeral mass.
Edward's Interment will be held following mass at Ressurection Cemetery 5201 Hulmeville Rd, Bensalem
