A graduate of West Mahony High School and the McCann School of Business, she worked at the Pennsylvania Power and Light Company before realizing her true calling was nursing. She entered Sacred Heart Hospital School of Nursing in Allentown where she completed her education to become a Registered Nurse. Therese served as class president at Sacred Heart. It was at Sacred Heart that she met her future sister-in law Ann Kniezewski Duffy who would introduce her to the love of her life, Stanley. While raising her family Therese worked as a Registered Nurse in the Greater Norristown area for over 40 years, a career she was very proud of. She was also proud when 4 of her children followed in her footsteps and entered the nursing profession.
Therese was a gifted pianist and talented storyteller. Her stories of her childhood during the Great Depression and World War II vividly brought that era to life. Therese loved being a “Coal Cracker” and had deep ties to her Lithuanian heritage and the Pennsylvania Coal Region. Music filled her home as she played the piano daily and would host Christmas Concerts annually for her family and friends at the Greens at Westover.
Therese was a devoutly spiritual woman whose greatest gift to her family was her gift of faith. Therese was a member of St George’s Lithuanian Church in Shenandoah for 30 years and then Saint Francis of Assisi Church in Norristown for over 60 years. Therese was a Lay Carmelite and active in the Catholic Charismatic Renewal leading Life in the Spirit Seminars. Therese also started and led a Rosary Group in her home at the Greens for over 12 years. One of her greatest privileges in her life was that she was able to travel to the Holy Land to see firsthand the birthplace of her Savior.
Therese’s devotion to her faith and family was rewarded greatly as she was always surrounded by her loving family, many friends and caregivers who had the privilege of having her in their lives.
