Obituary of Elizabeth E. Mulligan
It is with deep sadness that we bid farewell to an exceptional woman, wife and mother, Elizabeth Mulligan, who went to heaven on Wednesday, October 10, 2018, at age 86 after a prolonged illness. Betty will be lovingly remembered by her husband of 67 years, Joseph, and her seven children, Christine (Robert), Reverend Kevin, Karen (James), Patricia (Thomas), Nancy (John), Terrence (Rosemary), and Kathleen (William). Elizabeth will also be warmly remembered by her nine (9) grandchildren, James, Sean, Shannon, Casey, Kelly, Ryan, Matthew, Haley, Jack, and nephew Joseph, niece Dana. Elizabeth was predeceased by her brother James Roach and grandson Aidan.
Born November 2, 1931 in Philadelphia, Pa. to James and Elizabeth Roach, Elizabeth attended Notre Dame High School and graduated from West Philadelphia Catholic High School. She was highly regarded for her work at Bell Telephone in Pennsylvania and Kansas, ETL, Whitpain Township Police Department, and Montgomery Hospital.
Residing in Wichita, Kansas, Center Square, Lafayette Hill, and Horsham, Pa. Betty‘s love of God led her to serve for many years as a Eucharistic Minister and Cantor at St. Philip Neri Catholic Church in Lafayette Hill. In another ministry, she tirelessly cared for the elderly and homebound, all while excelling in her most important roles as ideal wife and mother, successful in raising seven exemplary children.
Known for love of her Irish heritage and her vocal talent, she will be long remembered for her beautiful local performances of songs like Danny Boy and Song of Ireland. Betty’s love of travel with her husband led her to enjoyment of shrines throughout Europe (Knock, Fatima, the Holy Land, and the Vatican).
Her viewing will be held on Monday, Oct.15, 2018 from 6 to 8 pm, and Mass of Christian Burial on Tuesday, Oct. 16, 2018 @ 11 am at St. Philip Neri Catholic Church in Lafayette Hill, Pa. Friends may also pay respects before Mass from 10 to 11am at St. Philip’s.
Burial will be at St. Denis Church Cemetery in Havertown, Pa.
Memorial Donations in Betty’s memory may be made to Abington Hospital Hospice (225 Newtown Road, Warminster, Pa.) whose staff were so compassionate in her final hours.
