William F. Russell Jr., age 86 of Lafayette Hill formerly of Roxborough died Thursday (11/22) at his home Lafayette Hill, surrounded by his loving family.
He was a ,retired Crew Chief and Lighting Director and Stage Manager for Channel 6 WPVI in Balacynwood.
Mr. Russell Jr. was born in Phila., PA, the son the late William F. Sr. and Mildred (Kelleher) Russell.
Mr. Russell was a graduate of Roxborough H.S. where he was a member of their band and played the trumpet. He also was a Korean War and World War 2 veteran serving in the Marine Corps as a Sergeant and was a member of the Marine Corps Band. He was a member of the Roxborough American Legion post #3 and was the Judge Advocate for the Dutch Helwig Marine Corps League In Roxborough.
Satrting his broadcasting career at WFIL in the 1950's with Dick Calrk's American Bandstanf until his retirement after 40 years with WPVI and was an active member of the Pioneer Broadcasters.
He was a member and head usher at the 11:30 mass for Saint Philip Neri Church in Lafayette Hill. Mr. Russell was an avid boater and fisherman and enjoyed spending time with his family at the Jersey Shore.
He is survived by his wife Thelma (Knittel ) Russell

two sons: William F. Russell III (Brenda) of Mason, OH, Robert S. Russell of Schwenksville, PA
one sister: Marilyn Lare of Shephardstown , WV
one brother: Walter E. Russell of Lake City , FLA

Funeral mass will be held at 11:00 am
Burial will be in the Calvary Cemetery, Lower Merion.
