Obituary of Thelma K. Russell
Thelma Russell, age 91; Wife of the late William Russell; Mother of William Russell III (Russ) of Mason, Ohio, Gail Russell of Lafayette Hill, PA, Robert Russell (Russ) and his Husband Keith Patterson of Schwenksville, PA; Nana to her 5 grandchildren, Kelsea, Shane, Keely, Jenna and Tatum Loving sister of Dolores (Dee) Weideman of Willow Grove, PA; the late Margaret Lutz, Charlotte Lampley, Raymond Knittel, Charles Knittel, William Knittel and known as “coupon-clipping Thelma” to her friends and family with a black belt in shopping the sales.
Aunt Thelma will be remembered by her nieces and nephews for her jokes and humor at the family get togethers. She had a beautiful smile and a contagious laughter which earned her the nickname of “Giggles” given by one of her uncles when growing up in Germantown.
Thelma was a voracious reader. When Philadelphia had the Inquirer, Bulletin and the Daily News she read them 7 days a week cover to cover clipping coupons along the way, of course. Of everything in her long life she said she was the most proud of her 3 children and her 5 grandchildren to whom she was devoted and brought her even more happiness filling the void after her husband “Bill”of 62 years passed in 2012. Everyone was astounded by her incomparable memory and uncanny ability to ask them questions about the smallest details that had been shared with her.
Thelma was skilled in needlepoint winning competitions all over the eastern seaboard. When she wasn’t reading she enjoyed knitting baby blankets, socks and sweaters for her family and friends and even for her “grand dogs” Zoey, Nike. Chance, Bigz and Frank.
