Please share a memory of Mary T. to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Mary T."Nell" Stevenson, age 86 of Lafayette Hill PA, died Sunday (9/9) at her home in Lafayette Hill . She was a retired Certified Addictions Counselor.
Mrs. Stevenson was born in Parks, TX, the daughter of the late Lloyd and the late Mary Coldiron Blevins. Wife of the late William Stevenson who had died in 2002.
Driving and graduating early and an adult to soon, my mom Mary Tenelle Stevenson - a.k.a. Nell, was a perpetual child caught up in an unending world of unconditional love. She was always undoubtedly able to give it and enthusiastically receive it, greet life that way and magically transform the world into a wonderful place to be. She would become wise and well educated, and those in her world would, and will always reap the benefit of having known her, her love, and her effort, her counsel and her brownies, and the list would go on and on. Her love and life changing efforts will benefit not only her family, but the elaborate extended family she will forever remain involved with. With a license to fly a plane and a published book of poetry the nurse would enlist in the army at a time when few women would. She would become a first lieutenant in one of the first integrated troops of the first Women's Army Corps for the United States Army. A trooper she was and a trooper she would remain. Falling in love with my Father at the Army Based Hospital in Phoenixville, PA (Currently Valley Forge Christian College) He was a Paratrooper, and a magician, and she would be his typing teacher. Marrying William John Stevenson on December 29, 1951 the two would have 3 children eventually making Lafayette Hill PA the place they would call home for more than 50 years. Nell would continue her education while raising her girls (Ellen Stevenson, Anne Stevenson Smith, and Julie Stevenson Pierson) becoming a certified Drug and Alcohol Addictions Counselor, and proud of it. Surviving the loss of her husband Bill in 2002, her love for him would sustain her until the end. Or certainly the end of one chapter of one book of one life as we know it. An avid reader, and sophisticated lady, down to earth and as open as anyone can be, she passed politely reading, one of her favorite places to be. Proud - and with a legacy of dignity.
She is survived by
three daughters: Ellen Stevenson(Mike Kilian) of Lafayette Hill, PA, Anne Stevenson Smith(Skip) of Ambler, PA., Julia L. Stevenson Pierson (The Late Charles) of Schwenksville, PA
one brother: James "Hal" Blevins of Breckenridge, TX
1 Grandaughter- Alicia Stevenson-Utti
