Obituary of John J. Sylvester

John J. Sylvester, age 90 of Royersford formerly of Phila. and Norristown died Friday (2/24) in the Parkhouse Providence Pointe Nursing Center. He was a retired Manager of Pharmaceutical Sales Represenatives for Smith Kline Beecham ,which is now- Glasco Smith Kline Mr. Sylvester was born in Norristown, PA, the son of the late Nicholas and the late Margaret (Chinchilli) Sylvester. John lived for many years in the Phila. area before moving back to Norristown. He was a graduate of Norristown H.S. where he played football and was selected in 1939 to the Suburban Conference Football Team as well as being a member of the National Honor Society. John received a football scholarship to Temple Univ ,where he attended 2 years before being drafted into the Army Air Corps. After WW2 he returned back to Temple to complete his Education Degree and graduated receiving numerous awards. Upon graduation he signed a contract to play professional football for the NY Yankees in the new All American Conference. He finished his football career with the Baltimore Colts. In 2004 he was inducted into the Norristown H.S. Hall of Champions for his achievements in football and baseball and was always very active in his alumni assn. John was known for his love of dancing and enjoyed a good party along with just being with his many freinds and family. The family would like to thank Parkhouse Providence Point for their loving care. He is survived by one daughter: Janet A. Sylvester of Tampa, FLA one brother: Frank Sylvester (Marilyn) of Limerick, PA his nephew Frank Sylvester (Diane) and niece Lori Carlin (Michael) preceded in death by his sisiter Theresa Roscioli (George) . Funeral Services and burial will be held privately. Funeral arrangements are by the Lownes Funeral Home of Lafayette Hill.
