Obituary of Carroll Robert Wentz Jr.

Please share a memory of Carroll to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Carroll Robert Wentz Jr. (Bob) of Lafayette Hill, Pa., was born September 9, 1936, passed away Friday, November 20, 2020.

Raised in Flourtown, Pa., he was the son of the late Carroll and Ada (nee Kimbel) Wentz. He was the beloved husband of Catherine H. Wentz for 62 years and the loving father of Catherine (Richard) Dattola, Carolee (Gregory) Deuel.  He was known as fun loving Opa to his 4 grandchildren, Victoria (Franklin) Bugg, Rebecca Dattola, Alexander Robert Deuel, and Elizabeth (Bryan) Whaley and was blessed with three great-grandchildren, Franklin Bugg, Violet Bugg, and Michael Whaley. He is also survived by his sister Marjory (nee Wentz) Johnson.

He graduated from Springfield High School in 1954.   After high school he attended Spring Garden Institute to pursue his love of cars and became a very talented automotive mechanic. Bob was well known as the person to see if something needed to be fixed. He worked for Springfield Township as a mechanic and retired over 35 years later as Automotive Fleet Supervisor.  He was a life active member of the Flourtown Fire Company where he volunteered for 66 years and held numerous offices, including Chief Engineer, Financial Secretary, and Director.   He was also an active member of the St Peter’s Lutheran Church, Lafayette Hill, where he sang in the choir and participated in the annual Boar’s Head festivals.

He was a member of Masonic Fritz Lodge #308, and he was also a Shriner.

Bob enjoyed being with his family and friends. Among his close friends were his first cousins who frequently got together for fun, travel, and good times.

There was not a project that was too difficult for Bob.  From laying brick, building home additions, painting cars, and building decks, Bob would investigate the project, draw out the plans, and put in the effort to get it done.

Bob raised his family in Oreland, Pennsylvania where he was surrounded by wonderful neighbors and friends.

Bob enjoyed the Pocono mountains and spent many retirement years in their mountain home.  They made many new friends at St. Paul Lutheran church and gathered for lunch at Cozy Corner Restaurant.

He spent his last 16 years living at the Masonic Village where he met many new friends and was known by the staff as a fatherly figure who was always a warm and pleasant man.

He will be remembered for being a kind- hearted person who enjoyed life.

Out of love for our friends and family, in these COVID-19 times, the service will be for immediate family only. We will be planning a celebration of life in 2021 when all friends and family can come together and celebrate Bob.

In lieu of flowers the family is requesting donations be made to St Peter’s Lutheran Church Lafayette Hill, PA or the Masonic Village Lafayette Hill, PA.
