Please share a memory of James R. to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
James R. Moore, age 82, of The Masonic Village of Lafayette Hill, PA, formerly of Mayfair, died suddenly Monday, November 14, 2016 at Chestnut Hill Hospital. James was born May 12, 1934 in Scranton, PA. He is the son of the late Benjamin John and the late Gladys (Kyte) Moore. He is the beloved husband of Edith Louise (Sauter) Moore. He is survived by his wife: Edith Louise (Sauter) Moore, one son: Daniel Moore (Ritsuko), and three daughters: Janet Moore, Susan Fischer (Tony), Ruth Forbes (Kevin). He has seven grandchildren, Matthew, Gemma, Benjamin, Alexander, Lindsay, Josie, and Madeline. Our beloved husband, father and grandfather was loved by everyone who knew him. His specialty was making people laugh – he had a quick, dry sense of humor and was always ready with a joke or story. He enjoyed telling stories of his youth, particularly growing up in Dalton, Pennsylvania. His family moved to Philadelphia in 1943 and he often talked about growing up during WWII. After the war, he enjoyed life in North Philadelphia and told of getting autographs from the baseball players at Shibe Park and hiking in Fairmount park. His family later moved to the Lawncrest neighborhood of Philadelphia - - the scene of his favorite funny story – "The Great Ketchup Fight of 1956" at the Crest Diner. We heard it many times!! Jim graduated from Dobbins Vocational Technical High School and became a printer. He was a 6-year apprentice in the International Typographical Union No. 2. He did all sorts of jobs in the composing room of Allen, Lane and Scott for 28 years. After Allen, Lane and Scott closed, he worked for the Navy Printing Office. Jim was drafted into the U.S. Army and served in 1957-58. He served in Cleveland, Ohio in the 508th Missile Battery D NIKE. He also had a lot of great stories of his service days and often said there were so many good guys in his Battery who got along like brothers. On September 10, 1960, he married Edith Louise Sauter. They settled on Anchor Street in Lawncrest, where he raised his family. He was a volunteer member of the Burholme First Aid Corps for nine years and he really enjoyed it. He often woke in the middle of the night - - sometimes more than once - - to answer a call from Burholme. Jim was a Mason from the Tacony Lodge #600 and loved volunteering and helping people. He was very involved in church activities in the local Methodist Church. He was a man of great faith and we can be comforted that he is with the Lord right now. Jim had a lot of interests. He was a prolific model railroader and his Pocono Valley Line was his pride and joy. He loved tracing our family tree and has found ancestors back to the 1400's in Europe and family that fought in the Revolutionary and Civil Wars. He loved music (he liked both kinds – Country and Western), and James Bond movies – he had all of them. In 2013, Jim and Edith Louise moved to the Masonic Village of Lafayette Hill. In 2015, Jim was president of the Retirement Living Council of the Masonic Village. He was also president of the Model Railroad Train Club there. Jim was a great father and grandfather. All of his grandchildren loved hearing his stories and his silly jokes. He will be sorely missed by his family and friends. A memorial service will be held 11:00AM on Saturday, November 19 at the Masonic Village Auditorium, 801 Ridge Pike, Lafayette Hill, PA. 19444. There will be a Masonic Service by Tacony Lodge #600 at 10:45AM. Calling hours will be Saturday, November 19 from 10-11AM at the Masonic Village. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Masonic Village.
