Nancy Hartung Hough passed away on January 17, 2026, at the age of 96, following a brief illness. She was the loving wife of Charles S. Hough (deceased March 2016), the proud mother of Charles Hough, Jr (Wayne Wong), Karen Mersky (Michael), and Paul Hough (Linda), the adored grandmother of Matthew Mersky (Ali), Sandra Masselink (Ben), Kathryn Boorse (Brian), and Ashley Milano (Matthew), and a special GiGi to her 7 great-grandchildren. Nancy held a special interest in children, with her first job that of teaching kindergarten at Greene Street Friends, after which she often helped care for her friends’ children as she was raising her own, followed by teaching at a neighborhood nursery school. Nancy was also known for her love of books; she specified a quiet time to read each day, always had books on hand to read to her grandchildren, and worked for many years as an assistant librarian at the William Jeanes Memorial Library. In between, she found time to be the ultimate hostess, making a dinner for 10 or more people seem so easy. But most importantly, Nancy will be remembered for the special love she had for her family. She adored her husband of 63 years, with their married life starting in Stockholm, Sweden where they lived for a year, and with whom she traveled to 72 countries. An equally caring and supportive mother and grandmother, she traveled to athletic games in all kinds of weather and was always willing to lend a helping hand or share a kind word.

A graveside service with immediate family will be held in the near future.
