Grace E. Riley Obituary

Grace E. Riley of Blue Bell, Pennsylvania, passed away on July 9, 2025, surrounded by her family. Grace was raised in the Chestnut Hill section of Philadelphia and was the daughter of the late George T. and Helen E. Higgins. She was the beloved wife of the late Leo J. Riley, Jr., to whom she was married for 63 years. Grace and Leo raised their family in Lafayette Hill, Pennsylvania.  Grace is survived by and was a devoted mother, and later a best friend, to Ellen Biel (Jeff), Leo (Alison); George (Jane); Richard (Tricia) and David.  She was also cherished as “Nana” to nine grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.  In addition to her husband Leo, she was preceded in death by her sister Mary Elizabeth (“Betty”) Sullivan.  Grace was proud of her Chestnut Hill heritage and walked to Our Mother of Consolation grade school and rode the trolly to Little Flower Catholic High School, never missing a day of school during grade school and high school.  Grace and Leo enjoyed playing golf together and were long-standing members of Whitemarsh Valley Country Club as well as Atlantic City Country Club and Isla Del Sol Country Club in St. Petersburg, Florida. In addition to playing with family and friends, Grace liked being paired with other golfers and learning their life stories during the 18 holes of golf.  During her sons’ high school years, she was an active member of the La Salle High School Mothers’ Club.  Grace’s greatest joy was her family.  She especially enjoyed spending summers with her family at the Rileys’ vacation home at 38th Street in Ocean City, New Jersey and telling stories to her children and grandchildren on the roof deck dubbed “Club Riley”.  Grace was most recently a resident at the retirement community of Normandy Farms Estates where she made many new friends and reconnected with some old friends. She was well cared for by many wonderful staff members who she also considered her friends. A memorial mass celebration for Leo and Grace will take place at a future date. In lieu of flowers donation may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital (www.stjude.org) or Tunnel to Towers Foundation (www.t2t.org).
