He was raised in the Mount Airy section of Philadelphia and attended Holy Cross Catholic Grade School. Tom graduated St. Joseph's Prep in 1950 and St. Joseph's University in 1954. He enrolled in law school at Villanova University, but after one month was called to active duty for two years followed by many years as a reservist. He was in the R.O.T.C. Air Force while at St. Joseph's and was commissioned as a 2nd lieutenant on July 13, 1954. In 1967, he was honorably discharged as a Captain.

Tom began his career in the paper business in 1958 as a sales representative. In 1965, he took a sales position with Blandin Paper Company. In 1988, through hard work and diligence, he achieved the position of President of Blandin Sales Corporation while also serving on several boards. Tom established two companies, ROL Paper Inc. and McKeon Paper Inc., and continued to be active in their operations after retirement.

Aside from his love for family, Catholic faith, and Irish Heritage, he had many passions including sailing, tennis, fishing, and hunting but his greatest joy was playing golf. Tom was never shy about his colorful attire. He was a proud St Joseph's Hawk who enjoyed their basketball games and was a long-time season ticket holder, attending games well into his eighties. Tom went to most St Joseph's Prep and college reunions over the years. He was a friend to many and was generous, kind, humorous and thoughtful. He never passed a person without smiling and saying hello.

Tom was a devoted husband to Regina Egan (Reggie) for 32 years and a loving father to their six children, Thomas McKeon, Mary McKeon, Matthew McKeon (Connie), Eileen McCann (James), Kathlene McKeon and Sheila Patterson (Scott). After Regina's passing in 1988, he married Madeleine Costello in 1989, adding to the family Kathy Donovan (Kevin), Edward Costello (Jean) and Liz Costello. Tom and Madeleine shared 34 years together until her passing in February 2024. He was the proud Pop Pop to 22 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren and more on the way. He is survived by his brother Barry McKeon (Maria). Tom was predeceased in death by his brother Edwin McKeon and sister Mary Ellen McKeon Harvey.
